Question Why do most GBATemp downloads "contain viruses"?

I know they don't all have viruses, but almost all (if not all) files I've tried to download in the forums have been mistaken for viruses. Because of this, I can rarely if ever download attachments in a thread that aren't in the OP. Is there a reason they are mistaken for viruses?

False positives just happen, if you want to be safe then do virustotal scans but you don't really need an anti virus.

What's mistaking them for viruses? At what point are the files being detected?

Like what are some examples, and what antivirus is complaining?

If it's Wii U stuff, the mp4 exploit used triggers Windows defender all the time. Why that is can be pretty obvious though - it's a real web exploit.

Microsoft Security Essentials, and right at the time of download. If it helps any, I'm using Google Chrome.

Two specific examples that come to mind: here, which I just tried to download several times, and an NDS homebrew that was made into a forwarder that I don't feel like searching through threads for. Funnily enough the latter was actually able to be downloaded at one point and I got the file, but I don't remember how that happened.

My first thought was the microsoft security program had GBAtemp flagged as a malicious website, but the download you linked worked fine for me on Opera, so maybe try that and see what happens.

An antivirus is the worst kind of trojan.
It just opens the users backdoor of conformity, makes he believe whatever he downloads is safe and disables its natural protection: thinking.
The false positives only make the user more confused and disables the thinking protection even further.

I tried using a different browser I had [Firefox] and it worked just fine. I blame Chrome at this point. Thank you.

False positives are especially annoying when it flags benign apps that I wrote. My old NDS Save Converter over on FileTrip is one such example.

I think that FileTrip as a whole is probably flagged on Chrome as a potential malware site

That could be it, as Chrome seems to give me crap about files and isn't FileTrip where GBATemp hosts its files?

Perfectly fine here on Chrome. Weird.

Is there a specific setting to change? I don't see anything under the 'Downloads 'section.

Perhaps it's just MSE, then. Ah well.

There is a thing that blocks stuff flagged as malicious on Chrome. I forgot what exactly but disabling it fixed the issues where some files did not download.

Well some antivirus software use a reputation based system for finding unknown malware and thus will flag anything as potentially malicious that is not "well known" and that includes a "hello world" program that you just compiled thirty seconds ago.

I think you're possibly clicking on the advertisements "download" button or not able to find the actual download button. You have to be careful because the scummy advertisements want you to download malware infecting your computer then will repair your machine for a hefty fee. There is a 100% safe way to download and that is using a virtual console such as VMWare with a Windows OS. Research on YouTube to learn more. Using a virtual machine you can surf the internet and be completely safe downloading anything. It does not mean you'll be completely anonymous because big brother has ways of tracking you down. However for virus protection VMWare is definitely my recommendation to you.

    Making my perfect world.
That's weird, because I was using Chrome and now I'm using Firefox, but on neither was any of this even an issue... I really don't know what it could be.
