I wonder why Nintendo didn't spread the new BCA protection to devs and use it only in NSMBW? New games are playing fine in modchips and homebrew.I find it really odd.

I think they used a template from a GC game to make NSMBW and the problems for backups were a happy accident.

    Possibilities:

    1) public beta test of BCA implementation
    2) Mario must be SAFER SAFEST!
    3) it's a method only used by Nintendo/not available to 3rd party devs (which will mean the next Zelda will have BCA protection)

Does No More Heroes 2 have any sort of protection?

It would be quite strange if they based it on a GC disc
But I'm not saying its impossible [IMG]

Not a GC disc, an old template codebase that had the BCA checking stuff from the GC. The OP seemed to be asking for opinions, and that's just what I think.

James Cameron's Avatar also had BCA check protection. It may just be limited to first-party or strongly-licensed games at present. If Anti-002 checking was the successor to Error_002, why do the majority of new games require the 002 fix? There's no be-all end-all anti-piracy solution right now. The limited checks they use at present are enough to discourage a large number of casual abusers from pirating.

I thought James Cameron was originally a bad dump. It is being played fine now (after a second dump) without BCA being added from what I know.

We ought to see it in a few, hot first-party titles soon. And if Nintendo's anti-piracy folks are smart (fortunately for us, they're not), it'll be more complex than looking for a "1".

No it didn't. It was confirmed to be a bad dump.

The anti 002 fix was never meant to replace Error 002 fixes. It was meant to undo the damage from the old 002 fix (which was applied by certain cIOS revisions) so the new 002 fix could work without a hitch.

I do have to admit, knowing Nintendo, that definitely seems to be a very good, and likely, theory on why NSMBW was so problematic.

NSMBW was built with the newest SDK. First that SDK has to be distributed to 3rd parties, then they have to make some new games.
