someone will reverse engineer TX's solution anyways. And we allready know what happend to Gateway after softmod was available to public. So waiting is the more logical option since we have SciresM with Atmosphere on our side.
I guess TX will not charge as much money as Gateway did, since they know softmod is near and they try to catch some fishes bevor public release.

A similar package for "bring your own dongle" is quite possible to make. Here's two candidates for the hardware.

    Candidate number 1
    Candidate number 2

These are small USB 2.0 dongles. they are full SoC solutions that have working OpenWRT rules. FoF provided the needed patch for EHCI chips, which these have. The injector is a python script. Putting python on these would be rather effortless.

I fully intend to make tutorials for these once atmosphere hits release, and after I do all the needful of compiling the images with the patches, and all that jazz. At that point all the end user needs to really do is "Oh, I download this and flash it using the built in updater, and then it will work? Awesome!"

The actual payload delivered by the TX dongle could be extracted by less scrupulous people, and then used with such a DIY dongle. It would then do the exact same thing, and could start their CFW. If that too was pirated, the cats out of the bag.

Can you dock it after you use the device to boot its CFW or is it portable-only?
Would much prefer a method that boots directly into CFW instead of requiring a device.

Gonna wait for the GBAtemp review for sure.

Yes but it all depends on when it is shipping and when Atmosphere will be finished. But I do like that there is PC required to use the product.

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, this fanboy keeps calling me a stupid idiot just because he's so deep in RE's ass that he can't fathom that there's more than one valid opinion.

Just because there are tools available to fix a car doesn't mean I'm gonna do it myself instead of using a workshops repair service. It's called having priorities and using convenient methods.

TX is offering a method that requires no effort for what's currently assumed a reasonable price which I'm willing to support. I can still swap to atmosphere once it's properly functioning and provides me with the same comfort the TX product allegedly will.

At this point I wonder if you are just some narrow minded brat that always acts like that or if you think being a manchild on the internet is something to be proud of. Grow up, kiddo.

Ease of use/install is indeed a major feature.

I floated the idea of using a zsun to boot atmosphere/hekate before this story broke. I had the exact same idea.

I want to make it as painlessly easy as possible to start the CFW of your choice. That is why I will do all the heavy lifting of merging FoF's patch and building "stock flashable" images. (and provide spoilerized tech details for the people who want/enjoy building from source.) Everyone else can just flash, then plug.

If you dont want to wait for atmosphere, I wont be down on you buying a TX dongle. Just to me, I dont see the point. I intend to make my own later.

Ehh... I like the untethered aspect of it, but if the homebrew community can make something similar to that dongle then there'd be no point in TX's solution.
That being said if it's around $30-35 (comparable to a DSTWO in price) I would get one as that would be a fair price. It's probably using hardware similar to a DSTWO, using an onboard CPU to run some type of OS or bare-metal code that communicates with the Switch. They could go the lazy route, and simply base the design on something like a Raspberry Pi Zero, put Linux on it and tweak the existing tools to work with their stuff. Or they could use a FPGA with custom code to do all the work.
Either way, the hardware is cheap, and in decent sized quantities the boards and plastic parts can be manufactured for dirt cheap in China, so what's going to be the cause of most of the price is the branding and the software work they put into it.

Switch has no games and none on the horizon but assuming it did have something I cared for, or I saw any real potential in it as a homebrew system.

Usual balance of convenience, cost and capabilities. I will also keep in mind that there are millions of theoretically hackable and unpatchable systems out there compared to something like the 360 where there was a sharply limited supply of JTAG capable machines, much less JTAG capable machines unlikely to experience RROD any time soon.

Having a nicely worked up firmware mod during the period the softmod/simpler mod set are busy doing not a lot or infighting (see also most consoles in history where such things exist) is something I could stand to pay for. Some kind of good future proofing or "my little brother updated" protection would be sweet too.
A "nicely worked up firmware mod" would mean simple SD and possibly USB launching, ROM hacking and homebrew launching as well as nerfing things like region checks. Cheats would be nice but if I can do that via ROM hacking then I can live with that.
Similarly I can solder, pretty well for that matter, so that is not a concern but I would rather not spend 6 hours messing with enamel coated wire and debugging strange capacitive/induction/coupling effects or matching impedances.
Cost wise then price of a game or two would likely be the limit.
Is it likely to leave me in the lurch in the future if I have to remove it and go softmod? Will I have to painstakingly reconstruct keys (I would hope I backed anything like that up but I have been known to play it fast and loose in the past) to create a working nand image because updates and efuses sort of thing?
Online might factor into the calculation but I doubt it, even more so if I am supposed to pay for it (some might wonder why I will happy pay TX but not Nintendo, simple answer is TX would deserve my money but Nintendo have done nothing for it).

It appears to have a USB-C pass through/dock connector on the bottom. Possibly it could remain on the port semi-permanently. (If the inject payload code only fires when it detects a gadget mode device ID, then it could default to being inert when booted into normal mode/after CFW is loaded.)

If it is $30 I'll check it out. Looking forward to what Atmosphere can offer, but their solution looks pretty nice for on-the-go. Also looking forward to the full review of the SX item they previewed and the other options in the "SX Family" sometime this week.

Depends if it's the only way to play *shareable games* "cough cough". 5.02 users will have to use the jig anyway so still worth it as an alternative

The technology to start a modified title, (say skyrim + mods), is the same as that to start a pirate title, as both are dumps that you start. One just happens to have been one you purchased and made the dump of yourself for modification.

The tool is not what is possibly objectionable. It is how you use it.
