Poker is a rip-off of Magic?
What are you talking about? Yugioh gameplay is much closer to Magic than the Pokemon TCG.Kamui101 said:The Pokemon card game, however, does play similarly to MTG. In a dumbed down way. So you could call that a Ripoff.BoneMonkey said:Magic The Gathering came out in 1993
And Yu-Gi-Oh came out 1996
While the original Yugioh manga came out in '96 (which didn't have much to do with the cards anyways), the TCG didn't arrive until about 2000.
While the term "rip-off" doesn't necessarily apply, I can assure you that almost all the TCGs we have now wouldn't exist if Magic hadn't created the genre first (in the same way DnD created the fantasy game genre).Gaisuto said:Just to be clear. Yu-Gi-Oh isn't a MTG rip off. They play nothing alike.

Pretty much the only similarity Pokemon and Magic have are how Mana/Energy work.Urza said:What are you talking about? Neither close enough to be considered "rip-offs" though.

They're similiar because they both have a resource system? Something that almost all (Yugioh being one of the very few that doesn't) TCGs have?Gaisuto said:Pretty much the only similarity Pokemon and Magic have are how Mana/Energy work.Urza said:What are you talking about?
