I know that, but what about doing something like bug-testing for @d0k3's GodMode9, an extremely powerful NAND tool?

Yes, that can be useful if you want to test/dev something, but maybe not too much useful for the user-end that just want to install super mario 3D land and play.

It's still a nice added layer of protection just in case malware for the 3DS ever does spring-up (highly unlikely, but still.)

So I'm upgrading to A9LH and I'm at the point where I installed it, on my N3DS. Getting the black screen. Decrypt9 boots up if I hold start, and the test arm9loadhax.bin shuts off the console when I press A, so it seems like the device isn't bricked. Not sure what to do at this point though since the guide just ends with these suggestions

Continue with the guide and install AuReiNand.

Do you have arm9loaderhax.bin in your root of your SD card?

Yes, the one from AuReiNandv4.2.7z
There is also one in SafeA9LHInstallerv1.5.2.7z but the guide says to take the one from the AuReiNand distribution.

They have different file sizes

One of my favorite things is that it's possible to brick the LCDs from arm11 userland by flashing a constantly changing screen.
