Hacking Which Slot-1 Device Should I get?

Well, I'm interested in purchasing one of those Slot-1 devices that seem to be all the rage =]

However, I have no idea which one I should get as their seems to be a new one released every minute =[

So...

Most people prefer an R4/M3 Simply, as they are incredibly cheap and efficient.

Some new cards also offer new features, but at a price (eg. G6DS Real, CycloDS Evo)

Yeah R4 was my first choice from all the praise i've heard, but i've heard that it has alot of issues running homebrew applications,

well i was really taken by that Comic Book Reader, seeing as I have alot of scans and i hate reading them on the computer,

i just looked up the M3 and for some reason i just seems better, what is your opionion?

Ok, Lament, many people tend to go for the R4/M3 Simply, but between those two I suggest the R4 because it get updates faster (you can use a tool to switch it to M3S firmware until an official comes out), and they are basically the same except for the logo.

Now, regarding PoR, you'll need a 1 GB KINGSTON MicroSD card otherwise it will freeze in that game. It's the fastest card available and the most recommended for the R4/M3S.

M3 is slot 2, and you can play GBA games if you get the Perfect edition, but it's more expensive (of course), but most people are into Slot-1s currently.

You can play GBA games if you wish by buying the EZFlash 3 in 1 Expansion Pak (Slot2). It's the cheapest Slot 2 available, and you need an R4/M3S or another other DLDI available slot 1 device to use the Tool needed to flash the games to the Expansion Pak (it does NOT take storage cards).

R4 + EZ Flash 3 in 1 + 1 GB Kingston at Dealextreme is 71 dollars. I bought from them, waiting for it to arrive.

Emulators work with the R4, so no worries.

No, M3 is SLOT 2, and M3 SIMPLY is SLOT 1. They are from the same company, but different products.

In that case does this mean that i'm still better off with the R4 over the M3S?
The M3 looked much 'prettier' to me which is what swayed me.

There is practically no difference other than the logo and firmware releases a day or two after the R4.

Im confused about the differences between M3 and R4 though..
Its said that the later batches of both products have changes in their circuit boards so that you cant switch between M3 and R4 on the same card.
however i always hear people talking about changing the firmware to R4 to allow certain updates to work(since R4 gets them earlier).
Is that possible with the later batches too?

This changing firmware is done by patching/modifying the firmware, so it will work regardless of the circuit board (this may change in the future, but it is unlikely).

i personally have an M3s and it works great aside from the download play

i heard cyclods is a slightly slower r4(only slightly) but has download play and is 10-20 USD more expensive

I don't think there are any retail stores which have them in stock in Australia. You may have to try locally (trading posts), or order online. Most orders come from Asia.

dealextreme, bamboogaming are both cheap (from personal experience, bamboogaming is faster, but they don't ship packaging, so you'll just get the card, reader, case and CD)
