I've read the stickies and it looks like the early versions of the PSP 2000 is the best way to go for custom firmware and the joys it brings. But I read in another site that the PSP version doesnt matter as much anymore since even the PSP Go can run custom firmware now. I havent been into the PSP scene since I have been way too busy with my DS but I figured I should branch out and maybe even get nostalgic with the ps1.

I am able to purchase a PSP 1000 , 2000, 3000, and a Go. Which one should I get for the ps1 games and psp games? And are there certain things I have to watch out for like permanently screwing up the unit?

You pretty much have to not mess with the flash with certain 2000s and above models. If you do, full brick. I would suggest getting a fully hackable 2000 and hack it. If you want the other models, yes all can play ps1 and psp games.

That's old news now, really. Theres a one-try ChickHEN out at this point, meaning you don't have to try ten million times to get it to stick.

Good advice, but i'm just saying even on the un-pandorable 2000s, you can just use chickHEN

FULL CFW enabled PSP 2000 series should be the best (I think..) because of extra 64MB ram, nicer screen quality (compared to 1000 phat series) and lighter materials (you should buy a protective case, because PSP is fragile)

edit: and by full CFW PSP 2000 series I mean a ta088-V2 or lower motherboard rev

A 5.x hack (meaning NOT a new PSP model) will have much higher PS1 compatibility due to the ability to use POPSloader.

So i should follow the stickies here and go for the fully hackable PSP 2000s? Is there any way of checking what motherboard the unit has before buying it? The stores that sells them all say that any version can be hacked but I read differently here hence my question and confusion...
