There are the very obvious ones:

    The robot battling games [IMG]
    Ouendan
    Diagasso..

    etcetc

The music games hardly require knowledge of Japanese, which is why they are the most popular to non-Japanese gamers

    Chocobo To Mahou No Ehon
    Ganbare Goemon Toukai Douchuu
    Mawashite Tsunageru Touch Panic
Unou no Tatsujin Soukai! Machigai Museum ( AKA QuickStop, should be dumped today)
Unou no Tatsujin Soukai! Machigai Museum 2

That's all i can think of right now

Ouendan is a cheerleading/music game, you have to tap to the beat etc.

Daigasso band bros is a game where you use the ds's buttons to play music along with sccompanyments etc. includes nice nintendo theme songs on there like zelda and mario.

i highly reccomend Ouendan, and Daigasso is good too, but it's a bit harder (for me at least) and i play it intermittently.
