While the Vita has the PS4 remote play and hopefully more exclusive titles behind it, Nintendo has their 1st party games. Which one do you think is in a worse situation?

(I was going to include the xbone, but that would be too easy :P)

Unfortunately, as I'm a Nintendo fanboy, even though I own both, I think the Wii U is worse off. The Vita has a relatively worse upcoming library, but it is cheaper, handheld (and as such appeals to more markets), and can be used to control PS3/4 games (even though most PS3 games are only able to do that if you have CFW), so people may be inclined to buy it for a lot more reasons than the Wii U, which for now is simply a sub-par console in terms of specs without a library to compensate for it.

You kinda forgot the most important item in selling a device that plays games:

    GAMES.

The Vita's library, going forward, is abysmal*, and the U will only improve (Mario World, Mario Kart, Zelda, etc.). The Vita has no appeal to any *sizable* market segment because it costs too much money and has no compelling, mass market, GAMES. Furthermore, Sony has no way of generating any momentum because they have no GAMES and, to generate sales momentum, you need numerous, high profile, GAMES launching in a narrow window.

The only other factor in consideration is price (U versus the other consoles; Vita versus tabs and 3DS), and the U, as a console, is in a much, much better position than the One and a better position than the PS4, even without a price cut. The Vita has to compete against tablets on one end, and the 3DS on the other, the latter of which has massive appeal to *sizable* market segments because it has GAMES. (I also marvel that you think the U s competing with the Vita. Really? Amongst whom? Gaming message board posters?? With a market that huge Sony can expect to be...right where they are right now.)

(And really, lol@the idea that the Vita's ability to stream PS4 games will have any effect on Vita sales...I mean, seriously? People are going to drop $400 on a PS4, $50 for a PS+ subscription (for MP), then turn around and drop another $200 to play games off-screen? Suddenly the XBONE doesn't seem like such a bad deal...)

I own both--and sometimes even enjoy the Vita (bring on Muramasa! A Wii port...sigh...)--but your reasoning and argument are questionable at best. U has issues**, but they are nowhere as wide and deep as those of Vita, and that's w/o even getting into the precarious financial shape of Sony and their primary focus shifting to a battle they can actually win with PS4.

*Save it Sony fans, we all know that the library through the rest of the year is anemic-at-best, even if a few of you insist that Tearaway et al just have to be better games than whatever Nintendo is bringing out because you prefer those games. (In which case I refer you back to *sizable* market segments and gaming message board posters.)
**Lack of online MP is really, really starting to try my patience as a fan, and it is costing Nintendo hw sales, even if they are completely unable to see it.

Both are in complete shit. Saying that Ninty have 3DS doing well and PS4 looks like it'll have a strong start particularly as Sony are much better with the console market.

Tl;dr: Ninty and Sony are only partially doomed.

Sales wise, Vita is dead. It's hardly shifting units. Even Sony hides its figures

Wii U is in the same boat, but with its up coming games we could see a turn of events.

Which is in a worse situation - PS Vita or Wii U? xbone is the worse unless MS change there restrictions it DOOMed. Answearing the qustion at hand I would say Vita is in the worse situation as it just can't compete with the 3DS and has just become a PORT device. While the Wii U is just a time issue with more time it will get great games and sale well.

I hate to vote "the vita is in the worst position of the two" as I don't follow handhelds at all. But I'll speculate purely on hearsay here (in other words: don't take it too seriously).

-on handhelds, it's actually amazing the 3DS can manage to hold its own against the many smartphones and tablets that allow for emulating and cheap games (which suffices for many people). The vita comes off as something for die hard gamers. All good and well...but on the go, you usually don't have that sort of time or dedication. I mean...I love GTA, but when I got my PSP and a bunch of games, I ended up trading them because game sessions were too long, loading times were too long and I could barely see what was going on with the reflection of the sun. The result...I wouldn't even want a vita if you gave me one for free. Of course, this doesn't translate to everyone, but it's worth pondering about: on the go, I just want 2D games (yes, even Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, I ended up not playing anymore). What does the vita has to offer in that aspect?

-on consoles, on the other hand, things look only bad for nintendo on paper. Yes, it has two competitors with more processing power...but it remains to be seen how much they'll sell. Or how much that hardware difference really shows in the games. And if that turns out to be lower than fanboys think...then the wiiu will rise in popularity by itself. And that's not even counting the first party line-up.

Vita.... The WiiU had a great line up of games coming out for the next few months. The Vita only had one game that shined in my eye which was Tearaway.

They are both in a horrible situation. Vita's lack of advertisement is what's bringing it down and while the Wii U is advertised a little better, it's still unappealing to most.

EDIT: Why is this in the Wii U section?

Why are people saying that the next few months of Wii U games are going to be amazing in terms of selling the system? It's still just more first party content on a gamers console. In the past, this has done nothing but keep the system afloat (see: Gamecube and N64). The Vita may not be getting a lot of great games, but the Wii U is still only getting first party titles that are either HD remakes of Gamecube content (see: LoZ: Windwaker), or more of the same that we've been seeing in slightly improved forms on each new system, both handheld and home console, for the past 20 years. Are you telling me that's somehow going to pick the Wii U up from the ground and sell it? The Wii U will not be the Wii. It needs third party exclusives a lot more than first party titles.

Unfortunately, Sony has not released overall sales numbers for the Vita since June 2012, so we only really know that in its first four months of being released worldwide, it moved a total of 2.2 million systems. The Wii U moved 3.45 million within about the same time period of four months looking at it's March 31st, 2013 numbers. Seeing as Sony hasn't been releasing sales numbers, it could be doing much better than the Wii U. Seeing as they are two different markets though (handheld vs home console), it's understandable that Sony wouldn't want to release them if they were much lower than the 3DS. I honestly don't know why Nintendo has been releasing their Wii U sales numbers. They're pretty damned bad.

Regardless, the systems can't actually be compared in terms of success without more up to date Vita sales figures. This thread pretty much will just serve to have a Nintendo loving circle-jerk and nothing more.

They never stopped releasing how many were being released worldwide.

Wii U is in a tight spot as well, but I've no doubts that with the upcoming games, it will get out of its funk ;)

"These two guys are drowning. But which is drowning the most?"

I don't know, it'd probably be more prudent to figure out how to get them life preservers first.

Well then, technically the Vita has moved more, but it's been out for over a year. In terms of sales per month ratios, the Wii U is currently moving better. It doesn't change that better in this case is synonymous with sucking just a little bit less than the other. And regardless, they have two different markets they're competing with within the video game market as a whole. It's a lot harder to move a handheld with Nintendo and their 3DS out there, as well as smart phones, than it is to move a home console at this point, even a crappy one.

Of course not. Posting the true sales numbers would bring them "great shame".

Vita by far. It has no games on the horizon, no media prescense, nothing. A lot of people don't even know it exists.

The Wii U on the other hand, is in the same position the 3ds was its first year, when people also said it was dead. Once the big games come out it will start selling. Will be 1st place? Hardly. But 2nd place easy.

No, I'm sure it's because posting the sales numbers would just be admitting how bad the Vita is doing compared to the 3DS. The 3DS has already moved over 31 million units. 31 million. Assuming that 5 million is accurate for the Vita, you wouldn't want to release those numbers until either the system was doing better, or you had essentially given up on the system.

The 3DS only started selling so well because of the significant price drop. It still doesn't have the greatest collection, maybe 10 games that I would say are pretty worth buying, but at the price of $160 for what it is, most buyers can't say "no". I'd say it has the potential to sell just like the DS, but I'd give it a couple more years until you can really thank the games.
