Misc Where can I play Pokémon D/P online without friend

I've heard of something like the Global Trading thing, where you can trade your Pokémon with anyone, not only friends: You can fight trainers not in your friend list. But where can I do that? I've got all 8 badges right but nothing found yet.

I'd be happy if someone could help me!

BTW: Does anyone know how the trading works (with non-friends in the GTS)? I tried many trainer/Pokémon but I never could trade it for one of my Pokémon ...
