Not sure if the right forum, but a search was fruitless. New to all this, but i have downloaded some RAR roms and find that some contain just an NDS file but some also contain an NFO file. What is the purpose of the NFO file and do i need to copy this onto my microSD card.

Also, is it safe to rename the ROMS and if so, how do the cheat databases know which games to update if the names change

Many thanks

You can rename the ROMs and your games will still run fine. As for the cheat database, it depends on what flash kart you have.

I just delete the NFO files since there's basically no use for them.

The NFO is for reading. Try opening it with notepad and you'll understand.
As for the cheat database, it's working based on the rom headers.

Usually most files contain a nfo,jpeg/gif(of the boxart)and sometimes a txt file or whatever stating where you got it from or the group and the most important part which is the nds file(which is the only one you really need) unless you like to collect the boxart pictures......

the NFO is just an info file, you don't need to put in on your flashcart
and yes you can just change the name of your rom, cheats work with game ID's and not with names

I'll never understand it myself either, the txt file will have like a brief sentence and the nfo holds all the rest of the stuff......

The NFO is not neccesary, just delete it....And the cheats will work even though you rename the rom, because the cheats read the Game ID, not the rom name.

the nfo normaly contains info about the hacker group, in any form of warez. it is used because it cant be scanned by legal teams on the net, without being downloaded. but if the legal teams downloaded it they would be breaking the law. this keeps the hacker groups info safe basicly

Why do people use .nfo files? Why not a plain old .txt which would do the same job?

The NFO file is a scene standard and without it, scene organization would be nearly impossible. It's not as relevant in the DS release scene as say the PC release scene where instructions and/or serial numbers are provided. It's an old standard and still very important.

From what people say pvp isn't even worth it

I just been playing offline, and they give you a few bots here n there on your team to help battle. I don't think it's as funny as the other games tho, more battle oriented than humor, which kinda sucks, but I'm still early in it
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, doesnt the game have a campaign mode?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea, and co-op, but you can also start a pvp session and battle just with friends. You get special skill cards (powers) the more you play. And higher value cards, but you can only enable so many cards at a time.

Toilet paper is considered the money, you collect and buy stuff with TP, kinda funny. Graphics are def better than the other games tho, I think they used Unity 5 engine.

@Xdqwerty, Many of them did before colour television was common.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Likely because black and white TV was in-expensive.

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
It certainly wasn't inexpensive it cost the same as a new car back then
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
How much did a 1965 color TV cost?

For example, a 21-inch (diagonal) GE color television in 1965 had an advertised price of $499, which is equal to $4,724 in today's dollars, according to the federal government's inflation calculator.

@K3Nv2, take into consideration how economy was back then
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Yeah that's why they listed inflation rates
