Hacking When the Wii U's hacked, could it play DS/3DS games?

DS, sure, especially since there's already a VC wrapper of it for Wii U. As for 3DS, the Wii U may technically be powerful enough, but either Nintendo would have to pour a lot of money into development for a VC wrapper or someone with far too much time would have to spend a couple years developing it. I doubt playable 3DS emulation will be achieved on it.

It wasn't exactly Wii U mode. It was a hack to enable accessing Wii U hardware in vWii mode. In other words, it was a hack of the vWii compatibility layer.

Uh, no, that's wrong. comex exploited a WebKit bug in the browser, the loader, the Cafe OS kernel, and IOSU. They later tried to enable Wii U hardware within vWii mode, but were mostly unsuccessful.
