It does not. You have to press update (which is incredibly easy to do by accident).
not that much
I havent updated my 3ds in months
Because I got the habit of not touching any button when turning on my 3ds, before seeing the update notification
then I press B and its gone...
It's just an habit to take

I think this need to be done every time the system is booted? Because yes, first I did it with "automatic" DNS and then manual, and everything worked well and good, but then, powered off, and on again and the system couldn´t connect to the network, the same problem code as the OP. Done the automatic - manual thing and voilá, again. We´ll see what happens.

On the Switch, blocking one server blocks them all. I'd recommend disabling automatic updates and living with it. I'm on 2.3.0, don't block anything, and never got prompted without an option to decline.

Wrong information. Different servers do different things. The DNS's made by people include all the servers; but what you said is wrong. You can block just updates, you just have to do it yourself, not use someone else's blocking method.

Thank you everyone for your input, It looks like I'll just have to keep my DNS as manual. At least the console asks before updating.
