Hacking Question When I change my DNS to disable updates I can't connect to the eshop/online games for some reason.

I followed the guide to stop automatic updates on my switch but for some reason when I try to play something with online multiplayer like splatoon and Luigi's balloon world in SMO it gives me an error code (2124-8028). Attempting to open the Eshop gives me the same error. However, when I did a connection test it was successful. I assume only things that require logging into my Nintendo account stop working when i change my DNS. Has this happened to anyone else and how do I fix it?

What system version are you on now?

As far as i know blocking on Wii U also blocked online play same as you have, probably you must live with that
Blocking updates using a DNS only blocks the eShop on the Wii U. It doesn't block online play.

Using NNU Patcher solves this problem on the Wii U.

On the Switch, blocking one server blocks them all. I'd recommend disabling automatic updates and living with it. I'm on 2.3.0, don't block anything, and never got prompted without an option to decline.

Had this issue using the DNS server from Plailect's guide; I fixed it by setting the manual DNS, but first connecting to online services with it set to automatic. After switching back to Manual from there, they worked fine.

(Worth nothing also, if you're below 4.1.0, you can't do most online things regardless, as they require the latest firmware).

For a regular user - yes, that's a true statement. But in the full scope, only thing that doesn't really work on older firmwares is sharing on social media. eShop doesn't work, but it's a matter of convincing the console that the firmware is the latest, which will be probably doable in the future.

Well, sure, but this thread is about the short-term fact that getting the DNS method to work is kind of tricky business :P

Ah, well, my bad then. Everything I've heard seemed to suggest that it was much more of a one-way street than the 3DS.
Well, the 3DS asks you like twice before updating. On the Switch (if there's no suspended game at the moment) it's just a tap / A press on Update (which pops up every time the Home Menu is displayed) and five seconds later it has already rebooted into the new firmware. So yeah, it's between the 3DS and the Wii U, being dangerously close to the latter.

yes but this blocks eshop and online
It's not supposed to, otherwise there'd be no point to it; as it'd be the same as just disconnecting from your network. You should try the workaround I mentioned here:

Plailect's aware of the issue and he said he's looking into it.
