Easily the PS Vita running a Virtual Boy emulator running a Game Boy emulator.
You might as well not be playing the game otherwise.

The original GBA for me. An opinion based on nostalgia, because playing those game I was amazed coming from the Game Boy Pocket, and the games were all amazing and exciting, and I was at a point in life where nothing was troublesome.
The DS had a lot of great games (OSU!!!!) but my heart still lies with the GBA.

I remember playing Prince of Tennis, hecking fun! And also there was a spin-off game called Minna no ouji-sama, I played that music game to death! A DDR clone in mini format (the game was by Konami, so... not really a clone).

I love it, man. I was delighted that I not only had a handheld NES (GB/GBC) but a portable SNES (GBA), as well.
Those two Metroid games, the Castlevania games, Pinball of the Dead, etc.etc. I was immersed.

I guess that would make the DS a handheld N64, in terms of power?

I grew up with the regular GBA but I have to say GBA SP for me.

SP 001, compact but still supports GBC (though the long term reliability of the L/R buttons was a disaster)

I just strap one Micro to each eyeball, SQUINT as hard as I can, and hope for the best.

That’s the exact same one I have, but I put in a 5 level brightness adapter. So happy with it.

Gameboy SP for sure, the backlite screen was amazing for me, due to my home having terrible lighting.
