Hacking What's to stop Nintendo from reading these forums?

Nintendo doesn't care about these forums, because flash carts, ISO loaders, and other piracy circumvention devices are not developed on this site. at least not visibly. You see, those things only land here as an end product.
Unless it contains actual nintendo code, then an installer/downloader pops up on this site instead. point is, we are NOT doing anything wrong anyway, so we can not be legally taken out of the air. in theory, anyway.

I don't think they would do anything, After all it is Nintendo.
And they say things like any modifications to the system, may render this game unplayable.

They would find nothing of use here because GBAtemp is almost solely composed of users. Very few hackers. In other words, nothing here is about actual hacking. It's news about other people's hacks and support for using them.

If they do look at the forum they'll just see a bunch of morons saying stuff like "How about we hack streetpass by sending a custom firmware instead of a Mii" and think "Well, nothing to worry about here"

Same thing that doesn't stop terror group from reading news on-line...
this place is a news site for Nintendo, but it's not the place where things are starting, Nintendo IS most likely observing and "wasting" resources on this site, if an exploit is becoming available on `temp, they'd want to know about it and how to get it and reverse-engineer it... a lot of `tempers also have access to places that Nintendo IS interested in, and they sometimes comment about those places

Nintendo certainly watched this forum. Remember what happened to kongnutz when he uploaded NSMBW early, provided link, and even uploaded pictures of his reciept. All that info was used in court to sue him for over $1mil Australian dollars.

Nintendo has a department specifically meant for reading things on the web, watching IRC channels, and downloading files. Nintendo also has another department that examines the code of homebrew. The Nintendo engineers can certainly reverse engineer any piece of homebrew code.

Edit: This was my 3,500th post on GBAtemp. Woot!!!

It does seem they've won the war though.
Yeah, I know they can hold way more data now, but isnt it funny that both new handhelds are using a new type of cartridge?
Call me a downer, but I thing Sony and nintendo have the security pretty much locked down this time. Maybe they even cooperated in terms of sharing ideas to make strong ap.
Only time will tell I guess, but its locked down for the foreseeable future.
You must not have noticed the PSPVita was already hacked before it came out in the US, and even after. I don't know if it still is with the newer updates though.

They're a smart company, I'm sure Nintendo (silently) acknowledge the fact that some people only buy their products because it's so easy to get homebrew running on them.

A sale is a sale. All that matters is the bottom line, and that they are continually seen to be asserting ownership of their IP.

Vita HBL can load virtually everything HBL on a regular PSP can. Also, in future try typing more legibly, for example, using full sentences and punctuation.

PSV only has psp mode hacked, and not fully like the actual psp hardware. Just like ds mode is "hacked" (for lack of a better term) on the 3ds.
This doesn't mean you can run homebrew that fully utilizes the power of either system yet.
They're mutually exclusive.
Using hbl on PSV is equivalent to having a hacked psp.
Running a flashcart on 3ds is equivalent to running a flashcart on a ds.
Neither system has been cracked to use the full functionality yet.
Just speculation, but I feel it's safe to assume having psp mode hacked won't lead to PSV cfw just as enabling flash cart use on 3ds didn't unlock 3ds mode.
Sry for the wall of text. :)

They might be watching...but we have nothing to hide :) ... if they want to stop piracy we would gladly help (but not by stopping the homebrew race)

DeadlyFoez: Congrats...(I'm hitting 300 soon :) )
NOT ME ,
To be fair your also not helping improve piracy eitheR :/

BUT on topic

OK, Seriously on topic.

While there nothing to say they cant read these forums there's also not much of a reason FOR them to look, its not like anyones posting source codes for 3DS hacking software :I

Hmmm... worst scenario setting: they'll hunt every GBAtemp member down globally and search our houses looking for backup games, flash carts and reverse engineering tools-ish!

But I guess that's not their plan, isn't it? They still are selling stuff so who cares? And I want to buy it all! :D

Of course Nintendo is watching. They're always watching. In fact, they're outside your bedroom window right this second.

Seriously though, I doubt they care enough to waste their time, money and other resources on worrying about a (relatively) small website/forum.
