Sorry, I admit I haven't done much research. Getting homebrew on all of my consoles has been a big thing for me, but I've already bought multiple games and would like to play them with their updates.

My PS4 is on 5.56 or so. Any word or rumors on if something is coming soon for my FW? I can hold off if something big is rumored to come.

Just been really out of the scene. Thanks.

No support if you are on 5.56, the 5.5x is for 5.50 to 5.55 and it is in private not publicly released.
Thanks for the update! So you're saying I should probably just update? It's gonna be a while before anything happens for 5.56+, huh?

EDIT: oh, nvm! I just checked and I'm on 5.55

I would say stay where you are, 5.56 might get a kernel exploit, 5.07 got one even though it wasn't supposed to get one, 6.20 has no kernel exploit, you can also buy a 5.05 system if you have the money for it and use the 5.56 for online gameplay. There is no estimate when a 5.5x kernel exploit would be publicly released.

Thank you for the information! I'll probably stay. Also I'm an idiot that didn't know you can still download updates for games without being on the latest firmware, so that helps.

There really isn't much reason for a new hack to drop, most of the games are already covered with 5.05, the next highest requirement is 5.55 which only include like a handful of games:

Spiderman
red dead redemption
kingdom hearts 3
detroit

probably some more but these are the big releases

also, it may still work on 6.xx so they might be holding off until closer to the end of life for ps4

A few devs on twitter hinted at a kernel exploit for 6.20 but no intention to release it because is the only one they have.

I dont agree. Update 5.5x gained "supersampling", which is not a negligible novelty. It's huge. I doubt this will sometimes bring homebrew applications. Anyway, I agree that there is a need to improve 5.05 (launch my purchased game on a lower firmware).

4k is a big reason people are waiting on that 5.5. You always see people posting saying their system in the closet is a 5.5 waiting to be used. Really best thing is probably forget you have a PS4 for quite awhile, and occupy your hobby with some other system. Revisit the Wii U, mebbe PS3.

Starting to see Youtube trends of Generation Z in their 20's now going on about their "retro". Never a shortage of hearing about teletubbies or the pokemans. Now, if they get original Wii to get a revival, that would be sweet! Their "Retro" was the Gamecube, a truly amazing library. Shelf the PS4 for now, it's full of ego fluffing.

The Wii is definitely one of my favorite all-in-one consoles. I use it for NES, SNES, N64, GB, GBC, GBA, GameCube, & Wii.
It's capable of other retro consoles as well. My PS3 is also currently my all-in-one Playstation console with the HAN exploit with PSX, PS2, PSP, & PS3.
As for the PS4, I'm still recovering my hopes after the Video Apps hype we had recently. I as well am eager for a 6.20 exploit to be released, or at least a word for hope of such before the next vital update happens.

I think the 5.05 hacked ps4 is a decent set up with a ton of games to play through.

People who don't want to spend extra money on another ps4 for the absolute newest games and online play are the ones who are in a dilemma about this. They want to both have a hacked system and also have the newest games. The ONLY system that is possible on is the switch.

5.05 systems are pretty hard to get now. I would highly suggest just saving up and buying 2 systems if you really need to play the few new games that are out. Get a used system on let go and low ball them - you will definitely get it for cheap.

I highly recommended not to buy 2 systems because it will be stupid decision and a waste of money. Just be patient and enjoying the 5.05 backup games until they decide to release. It could be a long time ahead of us. Be patient.

it really depends on how much of a collector/enthusiast they are

True but still stupid. Not necessarily. If they really want online and other one jailbreak then they shouldn't use jailbreak... for what? Buy one with online if they are INTO online then no jailbreak for them. To me, nonsense.

it's totally true. As an enthusiast which is on the modding / tinkerer / gem finder among romsets .. that sort of thing. The high comes with adoring the console offline. I got 2 decades of love built up doing this with so much backlog. No desire to get online and play Overwatch or Fortnite with little kids. Heck, even look at old youtubers like AVGN and Classic Game Room. It's all about looking for unique overlooked titles and playing single player games.

Can we get srs here. Grown ass adult that reaaaaaaaaaly wants to play some pc game online, probably has a preeeeeety good pc in the first place, wtf is the point of buying a 2nd system to chunk out $60 for pc clones titles? That mentality that people are slot machines for EA is pretty stupid thinking when all that frivilous cash could easily go right back into a better GPU or other hardware.

Now... back to his statement. Depends on how much the person is a
collector (gotta play those first run AAA titles online asap) ... or

enthusiast (ya, not really interested in dropping $120 for Star Wars Battlefront or Battlefield Hardlines Super Epic Deluxe Edition ((ffs got 20 kingdom heart games to play through before I can get around to playing KH3))

I had both, one 5.05 and one current. Games I am a fan of, I 100% buy legit, games that seem fun but I don't want to spend money on I downloaded. Ultimately it wasn't worth it, I didn't enjoy waiting forever to download games, then install, then play a game I didn't 100% enjoy. The amount of time you have to put in from downloading to playing, vs actually playing wasn't worth it. Ended up selling the 5.05
