The one between the contacts for the charging cradle. Anything actually attach to that or is it just one of those mysterious "future use" things that probably won't ever get used?

Hit the nail on the head. Just like the Vita, it's an accessory port for future peripherals.

I do not think that port on the Vita will ever be used as the PSVita Slim model that was released in Japan, has no such port anymore.
in fact, the only ports on the slim are the MicroUSB and headphone jack.

I saw it connected to a rifle style gun somewhere in a picture once turning the gamepad into a rifle with a screen.

Wow, I have trouble mentally picturing such a thing with such a large controller.

I didn't know the Vita had such a port, but I remember all the old Nintendo systems had them. Of course in Japan they usually got used but not elsewhere.

It's also used by one of Nyko's batteries (not the newest one).

Wow, that does not look like it would be very playable!

Used by a battery? Interesting that it would have power inputs there as well, with the cradle inputs right next to it.

The Uboost? That uses the contact points for the charging cradle, not the port I'm talking about, which is inbetween those contacts.

Also any idea what the slots underneath the lip on the back of the gamepad. its like 2 rectangular slots and 1 circular slot with a silvery screw in.

I think the screw thing is for a stand, similar to a tripod.

The Uboost does use that screw thing to keep it from falling off the pad.
