Nothing but personal preference from childhood version.


Some had Gold, they got HeartGold.
Some had Silver, they got SoulSilver.

If you hadn't owned a version, check up on the exclusives and select which one you'd like.

Expample:
Gold has Growlithe/Arcanine
Silver has Vulpix/Ninetails

Gold has Spinarak/Ariados
Silver has Ladyba/Ladian

i also had gold as a kid and im playing Soul Silver, but that was only because Soul Silver was the first one i got my hands on, i would switch if i didnt have to do everything all over again

I had silver, so I play SS, however, HG has a Kyogre in it, which beats the Groudon in SS...Your choice really.

It depends on which version's exclusives you prefer, other than that they're the same.

Well it's really up to preference, which pokemon exclusives do you prefer from either version?
Personally I prefer Gold, plus it has 2 more pokemon overall than Silver.

Both Ho-oh and Lugia can be caught in both games. But I'm pretty sure the Pokémon on the cover is a lower level than the opposite (LV45 for cover PKMN, LV70 for opposite), so a Lugia caught in HeartGold (LV70) would not be as strong as a Lugia (LV45) caught in SoulSilver if both are at the same level (the difference is in the amount of EVs, or effort values).

...and I grew up with Gold.
