To be honest the only part of it I don’t like is the stupid boss

Struggled on any non-kaizo game in years
(I consider cuphead kaizo for example- it’s only personality is A. Cartoon and B. Difficulty)

Why is this in EOF? Anyway:
As a child: Super Mario World -- Special world 2 (Tubular). It took me soooo long to beat it. Now I can do it pretty consistently.

Today: Not a level, but a game mode. Castelvania - Portrait of Ruin. Hard mode with level 1 cap -- NOT New Game +. Having no good weapons, no good gear and no nothing while stuck at level 1 forever.
It feels like being a four-year old kid trying to take down an army of terminators with bare hands. I should have counted how often I died. Getting from one save point to another could take an hour and the bosses were cruel.

Still did not attempt the same mode on Order of Ecclesia. That game is already challenging on normal.
Not so much now, but as a kid fending off the aliens in Majora's Mask was both scary and challenging
I do it in slow motion (inverted Song of Time). The punishment of doing all the steps before the aliens invade again is just too cruel to risk. One false step and... start over. Today we can practice in an emulator -- on N64 back then? Rather not risk anything.

The water temple is a little confusing in the original but not hard in any way. In the 3DS remake there are bright colors to help the player which removes 90% of the confusion. Shadow Link is way more fun than this tentacle-water-thing Morpha. While not my favorite: I like the water temple.

While I'm always in for some challenge, kaizo is completely out of range for me.
Newer Nintendo titles only offer some challenge for 100% completion and after the "final" boss. Man, the games will literally beat themselves when you fail at doing so.

I remember some of the levels in "Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure" were pretty fucking difficult.

The meat circus level in Psychonauts was challenging.

But definitely the most frustrating one is this. There's a platforming section in the first Lego Star Wars game on the PC, leading up to the duel at Mustafar, where Obi Wan and Anakin have to jump from girder to girder across lava, with blobs of lava flying to and fro. It's relatively tricky for one person, but this is a two player co-op game, and the level resets when either of you falls. I played with my brother, and it took forever. Absolutely countless times where one of us was a pixel away from the end platform, just to have the other one eat it and BAM, level restart.

not sure, but one hard level I can think of is 4-k in dkc returns on mirror mode. I can beat the stage without getting hit on normal mode, but without diddy, one hit, and mirrored is a nightmare.

    One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.

    Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
