Yes, so there is a special value inside a .xml file that if changed to a certain value will make the gamepad emulate a classic controller. Using custom patches it is also possible to emulate wii mote. However that is more experimental and may have issues. if value is 1, it will not allow you to use a gampead. if a value of 6666 or something like that, will enable gamepad emulation as classic controller. And then doing fw.img patches can allow it to also act as a wiimote.

Unless you buy them from the eshop then none will work as you need to run a cfw for them to work. If you are buying from the eshop then only 3 games on there work using the WiiU remote they are

1. Sin And Punishment Successor Of The Skies
2. Pandora's Tower
3. Xenoblade Chronicles.

well there is only a couple of titles you could do that then. get it modded, it would be well worth your time.
oh hell ya, I would mod the wii u in a heart beat but...it's not mine, it belongs to a friend of mine...who thinks userland homebrew will brick your system, so yeah... :/ otherwise I would mod his vwii so I could just pop in my portable drive with my wii game collection rather than bring all the rockband and guitar hero games

Tell your friend he's wrong. Won't brick your system unless you try and modify system files and you don't know what you're doing

Even with 5.5.2, although highly not recommended, you can install and launch content without modding your Wii U permanently. Again, the entry point for 5.5.2 is very unstable, so it's not recommended, but you could...

With Wii VC injects, you can take essentially have an existing Wii VC game like Reisdent Evil 4, playable on the gamepad alone. Any Wii game that supported the classic controller like Smash Bros Brawl, can be played from the gamepad via Wii VC injection using the injector script.

I have tried time in and time out and he won't listen
tell him that everything that could brick him is in another folder. And the stuff your modding can't brick him since it doesn't install into that folder. (prosuming you are using haxchi, or web browser sploit for stuff, and not coldboothax for anything.) tell him that when you install cfw, you don't necessarily install it, but is loaded into memory, which means once shutdown it goes back to a normal console. And it cannot brick due to the fact that cfw is loaded into memory and is not touching any files that would result into a brick. And if some mistake where to be made, the system can be shutdown and everything would be fine. (presuming somehow mocha was not working properly, which it does modfiy a certain file while in memory, but that file is always loaded into memory. And also assuming your not installing a system title, or something like sysconfig corrupted version) Oh and make sure you explain that memory means that once off, the memory is wipped, which normally happens.

I have explained it to him in detail I told ya, he doesn't care and assumes any and all modding can brick

Been trying, semi unsuccessfully, to figure out a TV "streaming dongle" sort of thing that has enough beans to handle Steam Remote Play. The "Chromecast with Google TV 4k" devices that I have introduce so much video latency it's crazy. And I've had no luck finding a good setup with an rPi yet
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
Used to think the video latency issue was because it was on wifi, but nope, same shit even after moving them to ethernet

@Sicklyboy have you tried the xiaomi ones? I have a 4 year old one that managed to work just fine (tested once for fun).
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@Skelletonike, nope, not yet. only tried a LineageOS Android TV build and raspbian (with Plasma Big Screen which I can't get to work) on a pi4. Was thinking about running over to walmart today and seeing if they had their "Onn" brand Android streaming box in stock. Heard good things about those
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Or a 4k firestick, I have several n they work great (mostly stream kodi from NAS drive) n they cheap. $25-50
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I've had such crappy experiences with fire sticks that I don't want anything to do with them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
The old ones were crappy/ slow ui/ weak WiFi but new gen better, at least for me.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
But I have seen people liking those ONN stream boxes, and they come w no bloatware which is nice. (firesticks has tons of bloat)
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I also use PiHole on my network which blocks most that crap, I definitely noticed all my smart stuff seems to work better after setting up PiHole

Only experience Ive had was with the xiaomi one and with the one supplied by my internet supplier.

@BigOnYa, And you must be careful not to find Android TV boxes come preloaded with botnets.

Using an adblocker for the first time is like escaping the matrix imo
