They actually removed the disc drive, finally developers won't release physical games that are fancy licenses /s
The ps4 pro was also an upgrade from a less expensive console in the first place though. I am a bit surprised that sony didnt find a way to get the ps5 pro to be closer to launch ps5 price though, but what can you do? Its not as if the og ps5 is a bad machine.Unfortunately all trends are towards discs going away eventually. I specifically bought a PS5 Slim FOR the disc drive so I'm glad I have that, but it's crazy to me that even after the disc drive being removed the PS5 Pro is so expensive. I've seen figures that adjusted for inflation the PS4 Pro would cost about 524 USD if it came out now and that thing HAD a disc drive. This trend is just slowly moving me away from console gaming as a whole. I'm just tired of buying something, and then a better model that makes me buy an entirely new system comes along.
Its a niche product, but those in that niche buy a lot of games.
For the disc drive, you have to pay an extra $80 which sounds like a huge ripoff. They actually removed the disc drive, finally developers won't release physical games that are fancy licenses /s
Having physical media is more important rather than paying for a game that is tied to both your console and your account. And by the time that game disappears from the store, then you wouldn't be able to play it.You're exactly right. I've run out of shelf space so had to limit myself a lot otherwise I'd be over 200 discs by now.
I much agree with this. Without the physical media, there's a good chance that the things you own will just disappear someday. It's something I always worry about when buying something digitally these days. Had it happen with an anime back in the day, and now I refused to watch something unless I have it on blu-ray or DVD so it doesn't disappear if I like it. I think people are more open to this right now because shops for PS3 and PSP are still up. I'm sure if those ever shut down people will think more about this. For the disc drive, you have to pay an extra $80 which sounds like a huge ripoff.

Almost nobody buys physical discs in Japan anymore.
Some titles are released as a download only.
Main advantages of removing the disc drive is the reduction of manufacturing and distribution costs for games (more money for Sony) and the block the sales of secondhand games (you don't own the game anymore).
Yeah. But they buy a lot more physical games than do the non-niche PS5 owners. Its a niche product, but those in that niche buy a lot of games.
80 or more if the scalpers got ahold of them all and are selling for 140+/-.For the disc drive, you have to pay an extra $80 which sounds like a huge ripoff.
The PS5 Pro is supposed to "target" 60fps so even spending $700 doesn't guarantee a stable 60.I couldn't get a PS5 when I wanted one (fuck scalpers) and bought a gaming laptop instead. I want a PS5 Pro but all my games are on my Switch and laptop already. Too bad for Sony, it's too late now.
I don't actually hate the design. It makes previous skins compatible. The PS5 Pro is supposed to "target" 60fps so even spending $700 doesn't guarantee a stable 60.
Oh, and the PS5 Pro looks like the PS5 Slim with three stripes like why.
Suppose with black plates it'll look better. Detachable Disc Drive - Real Life DLC.I don't actually hate the design. It makes previous skins compatible.
