You can use it as a DVD player, and the biggest thing, a BLU-Ray Player, which can cost 1000$ these days (or at least it was like a year ago, I don't know about today)
I suggest you to keep it, PS3 is a cool thing, even for show-offing

As the one above said, PS3 is a good exclusive console, and its exclusives are extremely good.

Hope to see you around with us,

The PS3 is an import gamers dream, no region locks and there are some really good games coming out that won't hit the shores especially Gundam 0081.

I just inherited one myself and, I can tell you, I'm loving it so far.

As was mentioned, it is a great solution if you need a Blu-Ray player.

Even if you don't have any games, you can spend tons of time just exploring Home and playing the numerous mini-games to be found on there. You can run Linux on it and basically have another computer at your disposal too. Sony has also made it pretty simple to upgrade the HD as well. Just find a cheap 2.5 inch SATA drive and pop it in (haven't done it personally but I have read up on it and it seems easy enough).

It's worth keeping for the Blu-Ray player alone. You can install Linux on it, but don't expect much from it since it only has 256MB of RAM to work with and Yellow-Dog Linux can swap RAM from the video card which Sony blocks from any OS but the GameOS. It's decent for running emulators of

It's probobly due to being out longer, being preowned, or the game not being so populour, MGS4 is a great buy, by the way, the story will keep you entertained for atleast a week and the online will have you addicted for months. One of the PS3's many great exclusives

Other than playing games and watching blu-ray movies?

1) Stream movies and music
2) Use the Internet
3) Download content
4) Install Linux (If you're bored on a Sunday afternoon or something)

Other than that, not much else.

id keep it

like you noted, games are cheap and you can order them from around the world because they are region free

if they ever get a price cut id buy one, games like blazblue interest me lots (360 version sucks, no controls and the ps3 online for blazblue is much more popular/better from what i know)

some cut an pastes from the PS3 vs 360 thread of my comments

QUOTE said:
If you live in UK, Ireland, Australia, Italy, France, Spain and Germany you can download VIDZONE and use it for free streaming music videos with over 10,000 videos to choose from more added daily you can also use remote play with your PSP and access and use VIDZONE anywhere there is an internet connection (this means anywhere in the world!) you can also use the remote play to access any of your content such as music or movies you have stored on your PS3 hd smile.gif

On PS3 you can also access most of the internet with the built in browser as well as watch JOOST TV or in the uk BBC IPLAYER as well as YOUTUBE and other streaming video sites too smile.gif

We also have PS3 HOME a massive virtual enviroment where you can make your own avatar play games and puzzles visit dedicated game related areas such as BUZZ,KILLZONE II,GODFATHER II,REDBULL AIR RACE (fly redbull planes in contests) along with the EA SPORTS zone where you can do Golf range driving, Kart racing, multi player Poker tournaments... also in Home there is a Virtual Cinema complex where you can watch latest trailers for movies, Sony events and other stuff ...you can also go Bowling play pool, play arcade games and a load of other stuff like quizzes in the BUZZ quiz area and other puzzles in the Xi area (this also has some gaming areas within the Xi zone) all this played with your avatar

QUOTEWant to add a new HD for PS3 just buy a compatible Western Digital Scorpio drive in whatever humongous gb size you want ..backup your PS3 hd contents and saves to a usb external hd or storage device take out the current hd and put in your new one format it in the settings and copy your contents back ...job done!

Want to add a Webcam ... just plug a usb one in most usb cams are compatible you don't need a special one with a chip in!

Wanna upload your photos ... again put em on USB and connect up to the ps3 and copy them over!

Wanna use MP3'S again copy them over via USB

You can also connect via wireless like you can with 360 to stream your media to the ps3 from your pc ...

Wanna use Divx/xvid then put it on usb device or disk cd or dvd and play it on PS3 or copy to hd and play from hd

Wanna watch MKV files ..use freeware tool MKV to VOB to convert files (takes just a couple of minutes) burn it to disk watch on PS3 no loss of quality!

It also plays MPEG and MP4 video files and if you have a Sony mobile phone you can plug it straight in via USB and copy content from your phone to your PS3 such as pictures and Music

There's also crap loads of good DLC full games and demos and other content on there for grabs or for a fee
smile.gif

Online game play is also FREE!

There's also a lot of PS3 exclusive only games such as Little Big Planet (1 million user created levels and more daily) and Killzone 2 and Gran Tourismo ..check the recommended games in the PS3 section

PS3 is actually one of the best option for Blu-ray players because
1) They are cheap. It was the cheapest couple years back, it's still on the cheap side compared to other profile 1.1+ standalone players.
2) Firmware upgrades (related to BR playback) are significantly easier than standalone players.
3) Built in wi-fi for networking which reduces the hassle of using features like BD-Live.

The downside is that BD movies are slightly more expensive (I've seen less than $5 difference between BD and DVD to way more than $10) and you won't benefit too much unless you have surround speaker system and large HDTV.

I really appreciate that the PS3 supports native 7.1 surround sound not only in BD playback but also in games (go back to thanking the Blu-ray media for holding all the juice).
I wasn't too happy with 5.1 audio source cap in games (most multiplayer games come with 5.1 audio source because of the 360), while 5.1 can be easily upscaled it's not exactly the same. And people usually don't give a shit about 5.1 or 7.1. Game magazines will still give out 9/10 or higher review scores to mono audio if they just like the game.
