A lot, and I mean a lot of Nintendo stuff is today being celebrated, such as the release of the Super Nintendo, the Nintendo DS, Super Mario World as a launch title, Super Smash Bros Melee and Wii U, Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire and Ocarina of Time on the N64.

Again, why does Nintendo like to release content on this day?

I'd assume it's because it's right before Black Friday and the holiday shopping season.

But black Friday only became popular in 2005/2006 which is a good few years after all the games were realesed.

True, but the day after Thanksgiving has basically always been the start to the shopping season, even before Black Friday was a thing.

AFAIK Europe and Japan also celebrate Christmas, along with all the other cultures that have been influenced by America and Europe over the centuries. It's just that there's less focus on the religious aspect of it in many places.

Oh, yeah. In which case the date is meant to give just over a month of shopping time before Christmas, naturally it's not significant relative to Thanksgiving outside of America.
