In that case, no, you can't buy just any Memory Stick. Many places such as eBay and a handful of other sites sell fake Memory Sticks at a low price and they don't have MagicGate. You need a Memory Stick with MagicGate in order to make a Magic Memory Stick. Yes, you can use a 4GB or 8GB memory stick, that's more than enough to make a Magic Memory Stick.

You don't need MagicGate, the fake ones from DealExtreme work fine as well. MagicGate is only needed for Sony licensed crap, not for Magic Sticks.
I'm not sure about the 8GB as well, wasn't there a limit of 4GB, because it used 1.5 kernell which didn't support 8GB sticks yet? Or has that been solved in a later version already?

So, the 4GB works fine, but you don't know about 8GB?

After doing some research, I found that 8GB memory sticks can be used. It says so here. You have to do some scrolling, or hit Ctrl+F and put in "8gb" and it will take you to where it sais 8gb memory sticks can be used.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
