Have you ever seen a game like, "oh it's boring since it's a cheap little puzzle game!"
Later though, bored as hell, you pick up your sister's(or other person's) game of Tetris and play it. And play it, and play it. AND PLAY IT! Well then later you realized you played too long an are having a elliptical seizure. [IMG] And then later the next day during school or work on anytime you are supposed to be doing something, you play Tetris instead. Why do you find it so addicting? It's a little game where you drop blocks and make lines. A simple concept but addicting.

EDIT: Dammit, it messed up. And if this belongs in Contests & Polls please say.

Also its fun competing for the high score
Not every game has to be complicated to be fun

Yeah, sometimes when you get bored of other games, you try and hit the high score on Tetris. Me and my sister sometimes get playing for hours on Tetris DS. I don't have it but she does. We stay until midnight! [IMG] Later! I never win though. [IMG] Only once or twice out of 50-100 games. [IMG]

Because of its simplicity. Its a game that is simply magical in its execution as it continuously challenges the mind but doesn't strain the mind. Think of something like Puyo Puyo, its reliance on combos strains the mind so its something I can't continuously play.

I don't know why, but I find the original GB version of Tetris to be vastly superior to any other versions. And far more addicting!

I think it's an OKAY game because it gets kinda boring. Also, it makes you think which may not be fun depending on which type of gamer you are. It's usually more fun to play against others.

I think it is an underdump (and consequently crashes a bit such as when you get a game over (quitting out works though)) but have a look at minna no soft tetris on the GBA (rom 1336 or so). Some of the homebrew tetris games (tetnus on drogs/lockjaw the overdose over at pineight) are also pretty good. Tetris 2 (I like the nes version myself) is also interesting.

Back on topic it seems bomberman also joins the ranks of tetris in games, music and as Renegade_R mentions although it may not be wise you can not pay attention for a few seconds while playing.

Failing that the fact it was bundled with the original gameboy for a while probably helped a lot.

It's incredibly easy if you play it right, which is what interests me. Though I'm someone who intentionally builds up walls of junk blocks and bitch when I don't get the long skinny piece. XD Always good for a quick session!

Lol that similar to what I do, I'd place a whole bunch of random pieces everywhere and try to fix it [IMG]

I love the challenge of puzzles and smoking the AIs, and even my friends in a competition of reflexes (how fast you can rotate/drop the blocks) and creativity (the various ways you can place each block). Best puzzle game ever!

Someone made a documentary on this in the UK, it was on BBC2 a while back (as in years ago).

He was saying it's basically so addictive because it's so simple, but the nature of the game means that you only see your successes for a second, but your failures stay there until you correct them.

Interesting documentary actually, if I recall correctly.

I think it was called "From Russia with Love" or something along those lines... I watched that whole thing... How Elorg gave permission to Nintendo to sell it with the NES and the GameBoy and it was a huuge hit... [IMG] Yey for Tetris.
