Hacking What kind of save does the R4 use?

Since my R4 is dead, I'm going to use a emulator til I get a new one, I am just wondering what kind of savetype the R4 uses so I can transfer my games to the R4 without starting over again.

    I've been working on making a wheel controller with arduino, 3d printed round knob, and a potientometer.to play breakout and games like that. Kinda of like the old Atari 2600 controllers.
