So... No WiFi, that sucks. What's the best non-wifi method?
I'm currently at 4.0 and I've been wanting to update because I want to play GH5 on my USB but it won't load... I'm guessing because I need the latest firmware. I know someone who has DJ Hero and was thinking if I can borrow the game to install all the requirements for the latest firmware through GeckoOS. Is this a good idea?

I'm currently at 4.2 and I've been wanting to update because I want to play GH5 on my USB but it won't load... I'm guessing because I need the latest firmware. You have to use cIOS222/223 to boot this game.
Install rev4.

Read xzxero's tutorial on how to upgrade manually to 4.2 which is at the top of the Wii Hacking board.

As far as i know, wi-fi is not required in order to do this.

You only need:

Homebrew Channel (to load apps from sd card)
update.zip and modify.zip (send e-mail to address in tutorial for links)
Wad Manager (to install wads provided in update.zip and modify.zip)

Arrrrrrrrgh.

When using a loader(some usb LOADER for example) you have never to care about the system menu or IOS.

Besides, if you update to anything, you may as well make it 4.1 (for the Sports Resort bugfix). 4.2 doesn't really have anything over 4.1 unless you like things that try to mess with homebrew. IIRC it runs on the same IOS as 4.0, so you could just install a WAD of 4.1 (you could get this WAD legally with NUSD).
