I dont understand you fully but heres a imho good backup strategy

use one of the hdds to play

keep the original discs - you gain nothing from throwing them away
and as long as they are ok they are perfect backups

ther is no need for a second backup unless you got plenty of space

in case the disc breaks keep a copy of it on the other disk as backup
keep them in the format they are in - converting is unnecessary risk

keeping backups on wbfs formated disk is a bad idea
better wbfs images or best disk images on fat or better ntfs

reripping to iso now would be best but not really neccessary imho

Actually you get cash money for your originals.
    You just trade them in.
Tis what I did for most of my Wii games once I modded it.

using those backups is then considered piracy cuz you dont own the original.

Most Original games work fine. Just take good care of them. Don't scratch them, ect. [IMG]

Well, running them from USB loader assures no scratching. And if you screw up on writing the ISO you won't have wasted a disc (Dunno if there's a way to get ISO's off discs once they're on there). I prefer discs though, just cause.

you can get them off discs - but the Wii won't read them because it only reads read-only discs.
