Public Private Ps3 keys.

That shit was wild. Every other system has some other bypass, or some way to get around key requirements, but actually being able to reverse engineer the REAL private key?! Now that was nuts!

PS3 keys being dumped was pretty amazing when it happened, felt like someone took one screw out of the unbreakable safe and the whole thing just fell to pieces, unfortunately Sony recovered the situation pretty well all things considered.

so for actual most biggest event would probably be a toss up between the discovery of B9S+NTR boot hax for the 3DS or the tegra RCM exploit for the switch in terms of completely destroying the security of the console irreparably for effected units, i would say the 3DS wins on style, but switch exploit wins on speed and the lack of build up with baby step hacks

Probably unlaunch DSi release. That (together with ugopwn and the DSi camera exploit) made the impossible possible - and that with a surprising feature amount taking into consideration that the DSi is dead.

Not saying its the best, but FlashMe for the DS because it opened the way to the R4 craze that followed.

It's like Rapper's Delight. It might not be the greatest rap song of all time, but it paved the way for what followed. Without it, we would have never had white grandma's rapping on Pepsi commercials years later!

For me personally, being able to dump n64 roms with a v3.3 gameshark was the biggest moment. Its what sparked my interest in piracy and hacking.

For the community, I think the original xbox softmods were the biggest moment. That's when things really took off. You had average people taking an interest in hacking. I think that's what started communities coming together in the first place.

The gaming industry definitely changed after that. That's when otf software updates, hardware revisions, and serious security measures really became the norm.

when internet started being popular (around 2000) and hackers and developers could share ideas and work together
before that, it was limited to hardware devices (game copiers) or sharing things with schoolmate (best place to share before internet).

hacking & piracy had always been a thing, even with old computers, amiga, atari, or older.
in 90's, Snes was possible but less known, I think PSX made it popular with making very easy to copy games, it's not even "hacking" yet, but that's when everybody became aware that it was possible. it was more "piracy" than hacking. to me, hacking starting around 2000's


as for biggest moment, I couldn't say. every console or device have their own story.
