As stated what in the world is it? the mt-card folks act like it's an online supporting 3ds rom yet I can't see what else it is beyond that nor why it ends with the z letter, as that's normally what's used to say that a file is compressed with deflate(zip) so what's going on there? I'm still not ready to get a card yet and am pretty much going to get an mt-card as I don't trust gateway but that makes zero sense to me.

3dz is the exact same format with 3ds. The only difference is in when Gateway/MT-Cart loads a 3dz file it doesn't disable the on-line functionality.
You need to have a proper header in your ROM though.

MT-Cart doesn't have online function and doesn't load .3dz rom.
You can make GW a bad guy all you want but in the end GW still is the best 3ds FC around. If you really want a FC with less function and less support then go ahead, anti them.

^ uh, I guess you quoted the wrong post?

    p.s. @OP:

it's been confirmed that mt-card copies gateway's firmwares to add functionalities. so yeah, you don't trust gateway but you still partially use their product if you use an mt-card.

what has this question to do with trusting gateway, and what has the op to do with it?

    anyway:

is far as I see it:
by renaming an .3ds file to .3dz you are basicly telling a flashcart (wich has that option) to enable online functionality. But you also tell the flashcard that they need to use the header in the savegame encryption (I guess that has something to do with the online functions), so you can transfer savegames between 2 different persons anymore (except when they are using the same header)

waitwait, if you start using an header, the old, header-less saves don't work? and the new ones can't be used with another dump without header/with a different header?

yes, the old saves won´t work . And the saves aren´t transferable anymore between 2 different .3dz files (unless they are exact copies)

    You can't.
The savefile is tied to the header somehow. Unless the header remains the exact same the 3ds will corrupt the old save.

I said nothing about GW vs MT-Cart. You seem that you are trying to start a flame-war. You also seem to spread incorrect information. MT-Cart DOES support online functions just as Gateway does. Both carts are equal when it comes to online functionality.

To the rest of the world: Every ROM dump has a header, scene releases have all 0s (which is not really a valid header). You need a valid header to go online. Also you need to rename your ROM dump to .3dz

nicexe, I guess anhminh was referring to you only in the first line of his post, and to the OP in the second part.

okk. I'll just wait until we can make old saves compatible with .3dzs (I really don't feel like restarting pokemon X...).

Nothing really, just pointing out that he says he doesnt trust their work when .3dz and online functionality is essentially their work that he wants to learn more about. Oxymoron if i ever saw one.

I made a personal rip of a rather large game. Automatically split up into a .3d0 and .3d1 file. Can I rename the first file to a .3dz or do I need to combine the two files back first?

I think yesterday I read somewhere here on the forum that it works only with non-splitted roms.

uh yeah OK, sure they did, then explain to me why then that they have multirom on a single SD card, automatically back up the save files without having to manually go back to the home screen when gateway still hasn't done that. Explain to me again how they are like the 3dslink gold and the other people.

Finally aobut teh flame-war bit, I am _not_ going to support gateway they randomly bricked people's consoles like hell if I'm going to support them with my purchase, I have a plain 3ds so I will not risk my console by buying their product and rootkitted death switch firmware.

As I said again, I will not trust gateway I won't buy their pile of shit cards with backdoored death switch firmware in it. I will not in any way shape or form use them, until they decided to brick random 3dses then I supported them and was going to buy one but now, no way in hell am I going to risk my money on such a horrible company.

And once more, I will not support them, I'm glad they made a flashcart but I won't be supporting their backdoored rootkit death firmware. If they hadn't done it before and then denied it, I'd still be getting a gateway but now? Nope I won't at all ever. Screw them I hope they go bankrupt.

man, it's not like I'm making things up. you can't always reply with such a tone (not sure if this is the right word). were you active on the forum when mt-card came out and released the first firmwares? I guess not, otherwise you would know I'm not lying.
I wanted to believe that mt-card was a self-sufficient product, too, but there was a release that showed undoubtedly that they copied (I mean "copy-paste-adapt") some features from gateway. I can't recall which one and where it's written, and it's very late over here right now, so I won't search it for you. do whatever you prefer, either not believe me, take my word or go search for it. I have nothing to gain by lying (but I'm using potential sleep time to reply to you).

As far as I can tell all of the firmwares at the least started with some of the gateway stuff, except MT from the thread on the subject. The rest state that they're all clones, mt-card was at least adding more stuff to the firmware and since gateway's put bricking in it's firmware/launcher I ain't giong to risk death. I only wanted to know what a 3dz was, i don't do online really and they added it to the changelog as if it was some magical codeword that everyone knew.
