What I Believe Is The Best Downgrade Process Right Now

This is thanks to u/perkel

After Many tries and hours I found this users steps and followed them to success (n3ds). I got through the downgrade process and it automatically rebooted without any problems (no black screen or having to remove the sd).

Here's Perkels solution, and I quote:

"- formated my n3ds (had 10.1, updated to 10.3 then format)
- formated SD (32gb kingstone class10) with SD formater (format overwrite + formatsize adjustements)
- downloaded 9.2-20E firmware for N3DS
- checked md5 of above firmware via this site
MD5: 6dcca8fcbc9a28c82c2a4e5182f3acf8
SHA-1: e7c77bf205137167f1f1befa0c4db9d879a21a2e?
- downloaded this systemupdater which julian posted (SULib one) MIRROR

thread where given (if curious):
https://gbatemp.net/attachments/sysupdater-zip.34449/

- downloaded starter kit for homebrew (from smealum site)
- installed TeraCopy to ensure nothing will be damaged via copy/paste on SD card

- put SD to pc
- copy everything lower via teracopy program! (it will show your option when you do it just via copy/paste like normally you do after you install that program)
- copy starter kit folder content to sd card
- copy sysupdater to 3ds folder in your SD card
- copy updates folder to your SD card once you unpacked your downloaded and checked via md5 sum FW
- get your SD card to your 3DS and set up your 3DS (date, time etc.)
- change your theme to something else and back to default (to ensure menuhax will work)
- do browserhax (scan QR code [L+R and then that left sticker] from this site)
- you should go into HomeBrew thanks to above
- choose menuhax manager and install menuhax
- restart your 3DS and hold L to go into homebrewlauncher directly

Once above is done you have properly installed homebrew on 10.3 and it is confirmed that all files are 100% safe to use (that FW you downloaded) and nothing weird should go wrong (it still has that chance though)

Once above was done i started sysupdater from homebrewlauncher.
Since memchunx doesn't work most of the time i had to try 7-10 times before i got #8 success and sysupdater menu.

Then i pressed Y, nothing happened for 3-5 seconds
Then cheking CIA files... or whatever that was for 10-30 seconds
Then it started to install CIA files
Then it got to autorestart in 10 seconds
Autorestarted (NO CRASH)
Booted into 9.2 system without problem perfectly (without taking out SD card)

In other words perfectly updated without single crash (aside from getting into sysupdate menu)

I give my humble thanks to whoever worked on memchunks, julian for this fantastic build and ton of other people that showed me way to ensure everything will work correctly (like teracopy, md5 etc).

Now i have 9.2 and i am wondering what should i do :) Good thing to wonder about :)"

Happy Downgrading!

There is one important point that is missing in this tutorial and save you alot of time trying to launch sysUpdater without blackscreen or freeze. You HAVE TO ! open the eshop and click you through up to the point, where eshop create some data to your SD. After that, just reboot with L in menuhax, run ftBrony, double click B, than start sysUpdater and there you go... first try, every time ! Tried 10 times without the eshop data before and the 3DS got frozen every time.

O3DS 10.3 successfully downloaded to 9.2. First try.
The O3DS was just formated due to System Transfer.

I replicated this on a second usa n3ds, the key points are to use the sd formatter, add the two dbs files, let the 3ds repair it under data management, add a theme/revert to install that data, and run the eshop to set that up.

The brony trick also seems to only work if wifi is on.

I downgraded two 3ds systems ( O3dsxl and N3dsxl ) using Julian's sysupdater. I think it's the best build out there right now.

Using the steps here? You run into any issues on n3ds at all?
Well, I did follow this guide but not all steps, for example I did not format the systems, nor did I update them, I didn't carefully move the files using some silly file mover. I did format the SD card then threw the files over in Windows Explorer then make sure to Eject the card. It took me 5 tries to get into the sysUpdater application (which is normal on N3DS) and the downgrade process went perfect. Same on my O3DS, but got into the app on first try. :-)

Basically you omitted all important parts of tutorial but it worked for you.
Point is that tutorial i made is supposed to be safest possible. Clear repeatable conditions (so people can compare) if you follow all steps by the book and ensures all data is not corrupted and it is ok from check-sum position.

As for "silly" copy program. IT is important. Either you use that program Or you need to checksum of all individual cia files which is waaay more work. Since all package programs like winzip,winrar,7zip have crc check you don't need to check unpacked files. Only problem is copping them. Yes windows explorer copy system is rather good but it isn't 100% good. It can corrupt data and this could lead to brick. Which is why i suggest teracopy as it compares checksum of files coppied from place A to B.

Format is proven to fix most of the issues with downgrade

I understand that it's for safety, and I respect it, but it's just a bit over the top for me personally. As long as you make sure you moved all files then used Eject on the card the files are gonna be there, of course, if you have a shitass card reader you should be careful.

You still don't get it. Windows explorer itself can be source of problem. At least 2-3 bricks here (on gba temp) were credited due to wrong hash of cia files coppied to SD card.

Teracopy download (direct link) and install is like 1minute and it gives you safe corrupt free movement of data over to SD. After it you can quickly uninstall it if you want.

What does a file manager have with a file hash to do?

TeraCopy unlike windows explorer checks after actions if copy is exactly the same as source.
With TeraCopy you can't corrupt file via tranfer
With normal copy/paste you can corrupt file (and get a brick in worst case)
