Dude you're well putting me off wanting to go to college to study computers! I've always wanted to learn computing properly but that sounds so shit. It sounds like you're basically being taught stuff anyone who's used a computer for longer than a year already knows.

Ah, nice one. I though that was part of the whole learning programming stuff! I'll probably go check the local college next week then to see if they've got any courses. This'll probably sound like a stupid question but how much programming knowledge is already needed when learning programming at a school? Will the very basics do?

I knew nothing, and now I am pretty good with C++, so don't worry about it.

They do VisualBasic in Wales, and it's simple shit. It's also horrible. You don't need to know anything in advance because you pretty much start from scratch.

Oh well, that kinda sucks. I tried out VB Express and it was one of the most horrible looking devlopment environments I've seen. I'll just skip the college then and put the funds into books to learn C++/#.

Well I'm not sure if it's in every college, but I'm pretty sure that they do it in both Swansea and Neath.

the first year is always basic stuff, it's there to bring the people who are from a different discipline up to speed. It'll get more interesting after the first year and you'll wish you made the most of the time when you had it easy. If you're that bored and you're getting decent marks just learn something that is worthwhile while you can or just drink the time away, in the UK the first year usually doesn't even count towards final mark so it is utterly pointless.

This reminds me of my photography classes right now. A couple of weeks ago I learned that you have to push a certain button to take a picture! The work of science!

    LoL

I'm in an even worse situation.... my college... it forces us to learn "An Introduction in Using Informatin Technology" basically, an intro to technology and computers, including the interwebz, in ENGLISH

While I already have a shitload of general knowledge regarding computer and the webz (hey, I posted 1000 times here, if I STILL DON'T KNOW what the fuck is "NETIQUETTE" I'm a serious loser) do you know what they teach me?

    1. What the hell IS a COMPUTER? (now, I've been using a computer for 8 fuckin'years, and yet you think IDK what he hell is a computer?)
    2. What are the parts of a computer? (IDK? Maybe Memory, CPU, Hard Drive? LOL!!!)
    3. What is internet? (fuckin' boring I say)
    4. What is netiquette? (dammit, I'm about to explode)
    5. What is a virus, spyware, malware? (Oh shit, right... so I've read lots of Kaspersky documentation and I have to read what the fuck is a virus supposed to mean?)

And the best of all is:
My teacher doesn't understand english well!

So what? We, the students do the translating for the teacher....

Hmm should someone reference wikipedia in a project/report I would be inclined to throw it back at them as they obviously have no idea of what a reference is.

remember people if you must use wikipedia close your eyes and scroll down to the part where is says "external links" or "references".

However do not get angry, use the time to do real work/research, try and get a friend to pay attention though and tap you on the arm in the inevitable occasion you get asked a question.
