Infinity. Take a number divide by 1, 0.1, 0.001, 0.000000001, etc. The closer you get to zero the larger the number will get. As you the denominator approaches zero, the answer approaches infinity.
More interesting question to ask is what happens if you divide zero by zero.

What about if one of the components of the equation is negative? That would be negative infinity which is kind of the opposite.

This is also not getting into greater infinities.

Essentially the question can be viewed as: How does one distribute something into nothing equal parts? Naturally that doesn't seem to make sense, and leaves you to wonder what even does that mean exactly? Because the question doesn't make sense, is why there is no value that can be obtained from the problem.

A question not making sense has never stopped maths before.

Square root of -1 for instance makes no sense. However it eventually gives us imaginary (and complex) numbers which have all sorts of interesting implications and practical applications (graphs, trigonometry*, wave functions, one method of solving the cube formula and much more besides, including its interactions with the other fundamental numbers of mathematics if you want to do Euler's identity).

*actually contemplating the nature of dividing by zero is useful here if you want to go tangent of 90 degrees and the behaviours of things approaching that.

Or go another way. Your pay is pi x thousand for the day. Can split it between three despite it being an irrational number or I guess if you think dividing it makes no sense because irrational number and all then I will keep it all.

That's actually how we cubi teleport between different realities. By dividing by zero, we create small tears in reality and can teleport through them. Humans have tried, but that only results in unexpected demons getting through.

That must be rough. Productive I'm sure but hard to balance with daily life

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.

Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though

@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
