The developers of the M3 firmware (the original TouchPod) hired Moonlight to create M3 Sakura as a new firmware for their flashcart. Moonlight flew from Japan to China to help the M3 guys, and after M3 Sakura was completed, they decided that they weren't going to pay as they promised. So Moonlight stopped developing Sakura.

After their betrayal, Moonlight continued to develop Moonshell 2, which looks exactly like Sakura, but with more features. Too bad, Sakura could've been just as nice as Moonshell 2, but whoever decided not to pay Moonlight is a fuckstick with no honor.

If it weren't for Moonlight making Moonshell 2 better purposely (out of anger I suppose) then Sakura could have been one heck of a menu...even better than it is now :\

But nope some guy had to screw over all M3 users and Moonlight. They may have made even more money than they saved, because more people would get the M3 for the better Sakura.

Wasnt that long ago I said that M3 were the scum of the flashcart world because of what they did to moonlight, and some little fool on here actually scooped low enough to defended them.

I knew there was some friction between Moonlight & M3 (found this out after I brought a m3i0) - but never knew exactly what it was until now

Boy - do I feel bad buying the m3i0 now.....
sad.gif
...still - I've still got the AK2i to fall back on

Now all I need is some1 to come up with a way to boot straight into Moonshell (no autorunning) & get MS2 to run Commercials ROMS using AKAIO loaders & I'll be laughing

I feel bad because I was involved in translating Sakura in the hopes that the firmware would be used more widely and would lead to more sales of the M3 Real, which would ultimately help Moonlight. Unfortunately, it didn't help at all.

Here's the news with Moonlight's original message and translation.

Here's an e-mail I got mentioning the betrayal by Sakura (Moonlight meant to say "I" not "it," and disregard the thing about Moonshell, it was just a mistake). I took this screenshot a while back for an unrelated post, so ignore the highlighted part.

QUOTE(sumarth @ Dec 19 2009, 08:32 AM) what about feature/gui updates?
I wouldn't know anything about GUI updates, and I don't think anyone else does. All I can say is that there was a major update to the GUI almost exactly a year ago. At the time, Moonlight still worked with them, and Sakura jumped from v1.12 to v1.33 around Christmas time last year. Then Moonlight quit developing Sakura in mid-January, and we haven't seen a major GUI update since then.

As for feature updates, we just got RTG and Universal Settings recently, so it's not unreasonable to think that we might see more features added in the future.

Something tells me it isn't worth buying a new flash cart. Unless you have an actual contract with someone they aren't obligated to do anything.

Wow, never knew something like this happened. Guess my next flashcart would not be an M3. Well, it's not like I'm liking my current M3 a lot either.

If you already have an M3 card there is no point in buying another brand.
+1

When this whole thing was still new, some people were having outrageous ideas such as destroying their M3 flashcart. It just doesn't make sense because M3 already got their money, so they may as well continue to use their flashcart. If they destroyed it, then M3 would've gotten their money, and they would have no flashcart. "Ha! That'll show M3!"
