I'm gonna buy a new game this weekend for the Switch, either Doom or Skyrim, but not both, at least not at this time. I'm not really asking about performance (especially considering that Skyrim isn't yet out on the Switch), i can deal with some framerate issues or bugs or whatever. But I've never played either of these games, but can see that they're both great fun. As such I'm just looking to see if there is a general consensus as to which of the 2 games is overall just more fun in your opinion, I'm truly not leaning more towards one over the other as they both look great in their own ways.

Edit: stupid autocorrect, title is supposed to read MORE fun not now fun. If a mod sees and can correct this error, I'd appreciate it.

Pretty big divide between the two. Large, open-world RPG with meh combat vs fast-paced gore-porn FPS. IMO DOOM4 is the better game, it's worth waiting on a price drop for Skyrim since you can get the complete edition cheap on any other platform anyway.

Skyrim is epic and a must-have for everyone even remotely interested in RPG, but it was released on 27 other platforms already, and I already beat it back in 2011. Well, the main story and some side quests at least. I really dig the idea of having a portable Skyrim tho.
Doom? Ok, it's nice. But I played it on PC last year and that's it.

I haven't seen a price drop yet for the switch's game. Terrible thing, all games are 50 bucks or more. No discount and no sales for nintendo games :/
Between the two I would pick skyrim (at that price for me is speculation but the portability is awesome in agame like skyrim).
Pick doom for pc or ps4(I bought doom for 15 bucks for ps4)

They have a sales section in the eShop now, but I haven't seen any discounts on the big releases yet.

All I can say is:
I have not played DOOM.
I have spent 297 hours on Skyrim (not playing around with random mods).

I think Skyrim is a fantastic game, and I think there's so much to do and read and.. really get involved with the world. (All the text that exists in in-game books, and lore).
Have you ever played another Elder Scrolls game? Like Morrowind or Oblivion? If you have, what do you think about those?

Nope, never, I've watched plenty of gameplay though so i know what is up. It looks like a fantastic fantasy adventure game, but i do have BOTW which still has its final story DLC due next month, so i’m not entirely sure if I need another fantasy adventure at this time. Plus it would be nice to have a great FPS on my Switch, since i don’t yet have one of those (though I'll definitely get MP4 when that drops, so one way or another I'll be getting a great FPS on the system eventually), and online deathmatches sounds promising as a fun mode to keep me coming back for more. Still i know Skyrim is immersive and also can have you coming back for more again and again even without some sort of multiplayer mode.

Skyrim is gonna last you alot longer in the gameplay (if you like that sort of first person action rpg anyway) it also seems the least downported of the two, mainly because its a 6 year old game vs 1 year old game
Price is terrible for both however

I’m alright with the price for how big the games are coupled with the facts that I've not played either of them, and that they don't fall for modern gaming sins like lootboxes and other microtransactions. Still, the price is why I'll only be getting one of them at this time and not both.

Have you ever played fallout3 or later titles, Skyrim feels a lot like a fantasy version of those.

If not I would say get Skyrim.

Also I am incredibly jealous of the fact you will get to experience an Elder Scrolls game for the very first time on Switch, and Skyrim no less. You are in for a real treat.

I got DOOM, if you have never played it before you will love it, the main campaign is a blast and it runs and plays solid also I put it side by side with the PS4 version and I could not tell the difference and that was undocked! the multiplayer side online experience to me is a bit nasty and felt a bit cheap I didn't like it, it was too scrappy! I get Skyrim tomorrow in the post I will update you.

won't it be better to make a poll? I have the exact same question (never played either) though I'm more inclined to Skyrim (not a big fan of fps)

Maybe, but i find written responses to be much more informative towards what choice I should make.
it's not text vs poll, it's text and poll (what I meant)
quality < quality + quantity

just saying my opinion, trying to help

Oh i understand, but i wouldn't even be looking at straight poll numbers personally, as I wouldn't find that alone to be particularly informative to my decision, I want to know why people prefer one over the other and don't overall care which of the 2 is more well liked as I can see that they're both great games.

Between the two? DOOM, and here's why... Skyrim is an amazing game, one that you could literally pour hundreds upon hundreds of hours into. And portable Skyrim would be all the more amazing. But, having watched a lot of footage of the Switch version, it doesn't look nearly as lush and "full" as its console brothers. The grass isn't very dense, there's trees missing, some of the clutter and extra landscape bits are gone. And in return you get portability and some waggle controls with the JoyCons. Honestly, I'd rather just get it on PC. It would look a hell of a lot better and you can mod it, which can add an absolutely insane amount of content and replayability (possibly years worth of it). The Xbox One version of Skyrim SE is a decent substitute for the PC one if need be, it has pretty good mod support. The PS4 version needs to die in a fire. So, between the two games, I'd say DOOM for your Switch, seeing as it's still a blast to play at 30FPS and on a portable device. Save Skyrim for a system where you can benefit fully from the experience.

TL;DR: Get DOOM for your Switch, get Skyrim on PC or Xbone for mods and looking shiny.
