So I'm using geexbox to watch movies (in avi.), but its kinda buzzy. Is there another format that gives better quality and maybe gets rid of the black bars?

Or is the wii unable to play high quality movies?

You should try Mplayer-CE it gives better performance.

What do you mean by HQ movies? HD is not working, even 480p is too much so dvd rips with divx codec and avi container works best. H264 works fine if it is used with MP4 container, MKV has some problems with mplayer, but don't know why.
