What exactly is the point of this section?

The ask section was originally added for quick and easy questions, and was somewhat used. It got lost in a site reshuffle (something got hacked, the whole site got pared down to just the forums and wiki) and was not there, one of the main/consistent requests for a feature to bring back was said ask section and now we have this zombie.

Ask sections were something of a web fad a few years ago (2014-2015's guest book as it were) but I would also agree that on a site which has stickies, moderated threads and a wiki it is of less use.

Anywho, Dionicio3 has a point there. Also, I still don't know how to select Best Question. Do you have have get a mod to do it?

Only time I used this section was last summer when I needed help with my math homework. Turns out the teacher never even collected it.

I know this is not your first time on the internet but I do feel the need to remind you of the general approach people take to such things. That being
"I don't like change". If you did not read the quote and end the final word in a slightly drawn out grizzle then go back and do that.

To my mind It really was that around the time of the v1 ask section the likes of stack exchange and spiceworks got loads of buzz so such things were added as it is not like the tech for them is hard or demanding. Much like all the other things that were going to kill forums, and haven't, it mainly only served to demonstrate the "make sure there is new content (and possibly help) and people will come" thing of internet design. I agree it could be cleaner and easier than managing a forum but the forum seems to be able to be managed so there is that.
