I'm trying to run some ROM hacks for Pokémon through twilight menu and a few work. The majority however don't. I looked around and read some people have success and others don't. Also discovered there are multiple types of DS hacks like the DSTWO/SuperCard or what ever its called. Haven't managed to get it to work, probably because I still have twilight menu installed or that I'm running it through a 256in1 DS cart I got off amazon with an SD I moded, but it keeps showing labyrinth as the launch icon and asking for _DSMENU.DAT.

Question is, which option is the best to try and run the most ROM hacks possible, specifically GS Chronicles and Unbound. Emulators on PC have no issues at all. I tried a couple Anti-piracy patchers but they are very hit or miss. If anyone has a good patcher or any advice, that will be very much appreciated. Pretty new to the ROM world and decided to try and run them on the worst hardware possible it seems XD

The DSTWO and SuperCard are different kinds of physical flashcarts. You would have to go out and buy them. They are not "types of DS hacks".

Haven't managed to get it to work, probably because I still have twilight menu installed or that I'm running it through a 256in1 DS cart I got off amazon with an SD I moded, but it keeps showing labyrinth as the launch icon and asking for _DSMENU.DAT.
That cart is going to work with specific firmware (or "kernel") and if you are trying to use firmware from an entirely different flashcart, then that is never going to work.

It's probably always going to identify itself as Labyrinth. Flashcarts generally identify themselves as some other legitimate game and there's usually no easy way to change that.

specifically GS Chronicles and Unbound
GS Chronicles and Unbound are GBA games, not DS games. That means they run through TWiLight Menu using GBARunner2, which definitely does not have perfect compatibility. GBARunner3 might work better, but that is not quite ready yet. (I thought GBARunner2 was still under active development, but I guess its latest official release was several years ago.)

In the meantime there is nothing you can do to get these working on your DSi. Some flashcarts like the DSTWO do include extra processing power that allows them to run a different GBA emulator, but those carts are expensive and there is no guarantee that emulator will work any better.

Thanks for the reply! Very helpful information. I love my DS and will continue to use it for base games.

I just discovered some handheld emulators like the RG351V and Miyoo Mini Plus. Would you recommend one in particular for hard rom hacks?

I would say those are completely different devices and not "handheld emulators".

If the hacks run on mGBA on your PC, and those devices can run mGBA, then they can probably run those hacks.

I use pass*phrases * generally so, longer and not terribly hard to remember. But I write my work password down in my phone, because I run Amphetamine on my work macbook so it doesn't go to sleep (I work from home so no unattended access issues). I RARELY have to ever enter my password, because of that, so if I don't write it down I will 100% forget it. 10 times in 3 months would be on the higher end of how often I type it in
