Might help to explain what it is as I did not have a clue as I wandered in here.

http://www.techradar.com/news/gamin...alongside-next-gen-consoles-on-nov-29-1185160

"x86-based AMD 3.2Ghz quad-core chip, 8GB of RAM and 128GB solid-state drive storage. The Piston packs 12 USB ports and can support up to three monitors through mini-DP, HDMI and DisplayPort at up to 4K resolution."
It is modular, whatever that ultimately means (most PCs already are), somewhat small form factor and pitched towards SteamOS.
Cost runs 1000 USD (740 Euros or £620, who knows what will happen in Europe though).

Unless I am fitting out an office with basic needs I build my own PCs.

Not a big fan of AMD components, I already have a perfectly good gaming computer and even if I didn't I don't think I'd spend so much cash for so little performance.

I've never bought a pre-built Desktop computer and I can't see why my approach would be any different towards HTPC. I can build an equivalent or superior box myself so I can't see why I'd bother with the rather pricey Piston. ;)

Don't really see the point of this thread.
Its like asking if we'd buy any kind of pre-built PC.

The answer: Hell naw.

I can see it function as a HTPC.
Personally, I wouldn't buy it.

RasPi would also function neatly as a HTPC and only costs like 50 ish quid.

Uhm, yeah, Raspberry Pi is infinitely weaker while the Piston is comparable to a desktop PC. ;)

RasPi might not be that strong, but it'll still function neatly as a HTPC.
XBMC would run fairly on it with 1080p video's

That's great, but the Piston was designed as a high-performance gaming machine in a tiny box... meaning exactly what the Raspberry Pi isn't.

RasPi works as a HTPC >:c
And I wasn't talking about gaming tho.

If I where to get that for gaming, I'd rather build me own PC.
So that I can still upgrade hardware later on.

Well, you can upgrade the Piston as well... naturally it's also infinitely worse than a home-made PC with wicked specs. :tpi:

All I was saying was that the two devices are in completely different sectors of the industry, hence the rather large price gap. Comparing the Raspberry Pi to the Piston is like comparing the OUYA to the PS4 - they're both consoles, sure... they just have different intended uses. ;)

At the end of the day, their just machines made to run an OS.
I'd still take a RasPi over a Piston.

Well, of course - each to their own. I'd take neither - I'd build an actual beefy HTPC myself instead. :tpi:

I got me RGH 360 for HTPC purposes.
Or PS3 with CFW.

Honestly, I never watch video's on telly, I got me lappie for it c:

It uses the AMD R-464L embedded series processor, which is essentially a A10-4600M APU.

It is really cool for what it is, but is exorbitantly overpriced. Sad, really. Why not just use an A10-4600M? Or even an A10-5750M?

$999? Nope.
Like Tom said, you can put together a machine of comparable specs for half the money, and while some people may find the (impressively small) form factor and the (impressively) low power consumption worth the extra $500, but it's just not that important to me. It's a nice piece of hardware but for my money, it's not worth the... money.
