Windows Defender is pretty good at catching most things and is getting even better with new updates, i believe there is a sandbox routine being tested right now in the insider previews (?) but I have used WD with Malwarebytes and have never had an issue. I just seem to be one of the lucky ones that got a lifetime licence to MB when they were still being offered rather than the yearly subscriptions.

Windows Defender is decent but it is also the standard benchmark for what any malware should be able to defeat so the effectivity of it is questionable.

No anti virus will never be able to catch everything. The best anti virus is you. You can have the best anti virus in the world and still get infected of you insists on browsing dodgy sites or downloading stuff without thinking.

Antiviruses have always been and always will be just a safety net and no matter which you use they are always going to have things they are poorer at than other.

An antivirus that any basic malware can bypass is no better than no protection at all.

I agree that it's a last line of defense though.
