Research + Education: most teachers I have ever had are either too busy or too useless to teach anything interesting, oh and some of what I would learn is perhaps not of the most morally valuable nature: what teacher would or even could teach someone ROM/program hacking, reverse engineering, DRM circumvention, weapons (I made improved one of my knives the other day which was fun), medicine, computing, languages, electronics how I want and when I see fit.

Downloading: I suppose usenet is not technically the internet but you get the idea. This being said torrent sites are a veritable goldmine of stuff that is on usenet (seen as 90% comes from there anyhow).

Chat: The one channel on IRC is about all I ever go on so count that one out.

Email, I have no phone with a number that people know and these days no email I really check either.

Gaming: real life, network or not at all these days.

Forums: I only post on two an visit a few others on a regular basis these days.
News: I only really care for science, tech and "gbatemp" style news. I suppose though what time is spent has a significant amount spent on this.
