Appears to be a 3.5" HDD. You can buy a USB enclosure for 2.5" HDDs for cheap, which is what I use on my Wii. I've tried using a 3.5" HDD using the PCB in that enclosure, but the drive won't spin up, from my experience. There is a slightly more expensive alternative, which is a kit that uses USB and a wall socket, which I also have used for 3.5" HDDs and works fine on the Wii - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-5SATA-...031537?hash=item5906e92331:g:6rAAAOSwWDBa~Vr6

You need a SATA enclosure,

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod...3.5+inch+hard+drive+enclosure&N=-1&isNodeId=1

Something like one of these, I didn't post a specific one because all of the ones I have tried worked fine... but I have heard some do not. So if I post a specific one and it doesn't work than that could be bad :( They also change the electronics in these things all the time.

Basically some things to look for, make sure it has a power plug and USB 2/3 should work fine. Beyond that not much else to say. I would recommend formatting to NTFS unless you want to use GameCube games and some homebrew stuff uses Fat32. But if just Wii game loading is what you want, go with NTFS and enjoy :)

Edit: If you had the smaller 2.5 inch drive, you could get away with a USB powered enclosure. I use one of those on my Wii. Although if thumb drives keep getting cheaper and larger I can see myself eventually using one of those.

Before using it, I would run a full test on it using Seatools to make sure the drive is good.

Is there any actual benefit to NTFS?

It's only a 1TB drive and any games over 4GB can be split.

Stability is one major massive benefit, less of a change the drive randomly gets corrupted for no apparent reason. (It rarely happens but when it does... it's a disaster.) I know I wouldn't want to have to sit and reformat a 1TB drive and then spend half a day loading all those games back on (IF you have them on your PC already... if not than good luck downloading them all again)

Out of curiosity, is allot of the software you're using lacking NTFS write support? Because AFAIK that's usually when most FS corruption happens.

Really the only things I have on my Wii are Wii games on the hard drive, and some emulators using the SD card slot. So nothing really writes to anything other than the SD slot or the Wii's internal memory for game saves.
