Hacking What do I need in order to play only WiiWare & VC?

I'm still new to this and I couldn't get proper answer.
After installing homebrew, do I need to patch IOS80 or some other IOS in order to play WiiWare & VC games?
Or do I need homebrew + wad manager at all?

Or I can just install the wads?

The fear is that you have a dodgy wad and you brick your vwii. Most of the experienced here would advise against it unless you know 100% they are legit. If for some reason it doesn't work, you could brick your vWii.

Using an Emunand is much safer.

You need patched IOS80, and WiiMOD [see my sig.] (wad manager), in order to play pirated, injected VC/WiiWares off your SD.
Is all up to you, if you have a Wii to test your wads beforehand the better, if you are not sure about the wad source you could brick your Wii U, since there's no bootmii to restore stuff this time.

I heard about banner brick but if I'm using only the official games in wad I guess should be safe?

There can still be incompatibility issues that can't be foreseen.

You can't really play wiiware from a USB stick as far as i'm aware, unless you're using an Emunand from a loader. I'm not quite sure on the specifics there though.

Nope, IOS80 patch is only to SD card launch
Official ones are ok, and yes banner bricks are the most common, I really don't know how Dolphin internally works with wads, don't have a Wii to test your wads before hand?

Unfortunately no, I only have a new Wii U.
So I get from all this that I only need Homebrew Channel and I can install the official VC wads without any signature-checks patched? I don't need IOS80 since they will be installed to the system. It's just the risk left?

Correct, you need a special "wad manager" though, one compatible with Wii U, check WiiModLite in my sig.

Yep, it works with whatever patch applied to your wad, it doesn't apply region free by its own though.
