Basically my launch wii has broke. I have a lot of VC games etc so I thought id go buy a brand new Wii, and swap the insides over and send back to Nintendo with the new serial number.

But then I thought, well surely they could see from my account that i bought this stuff ages ago...

So im really not sure what to do now!!

    Any ideas?

If you send your Wii into be fixed, can't you ask them to save your downloads?

I'm sure I recall reading something about that ...

Yeah but if its out of warranty im assuming they wont fix it, or they will charge a lot of cash?

I was plannng to swap the old wii with new case so it would be still in warranty and ask them to save my downloads. but i am not sure if they will see that some of my downloads where made like over a year ago and get a bit suspecious over it..

They may well catch you out.

Especially if you don't close the Wii back up neatly.

You know, you can download the VC games again if you used your own account... for free. The ones you bought that is.

Seems a lot of people do not know how the VC works. It is linked to your specific console. You only have 2 options:
    1) Send it to Nintendo for repair and they will fix it, either by repairing your actual unit, or transferring the rights to the VC games to the new unit. You cannot simply buy or obtain a new Wii and get "content you paid for". IT is linked to the specific Wii, not you.

    2) Do the advanced RMA where they mail you a new one, then open the Wii and swap the old base (bottom). I am assuming the base itself is okay, and the dvd drive is what broke.

Unfourtunatly I think the base and dvd drive is broke. Disc drive is completly dead now, but before that got occasional AN ERROR HAS OCCURED and then it happened a lot. Also, when exiting games (back to wii menu) the console crashes. I mean I can get it to run VC games but as soon as you exit, it crashes..

    I can't.

I bought a Wii and got Gunstar Heroes. Gave that Wii to a friend as a pressie and bought another - when I log in with my account I can't re-download it.

My nintendovip account also shows it as being bought [IMG]

if I remember, it isn't oo spendy to get it fixed, unless yours is modded of course, that might be an issue. I may need to get mine fixed, pops up with an error every once in awhile, so eh, not tight!
