My little girl is now 4.5. A couple months ago, i introduced het to Kirby epic yarn (wii), and it's a solid hit. She's not doing al the transformation moves yet, but the great draw is that you can't die. At most lose Diamonds you collect (and hope to Carry most to the finish). It's a platformer in which I can mostly Carry the game and occasionally praise her when she makes a tough jump or hits an enemy.

This far, only mario kart wii has come close, and... She's starting to find out the other enemies just outrank her.

Ive tried others (wii sports and sports mix), but haven't found anything yet. Mario is still too hard for het.

Do you know of alternatives? Preferably on wii, but through steam deck Ive got access to me modern platforms.

Thanks :)

Would Mario Tennis be too difficult?
Only slightly, but yes.

That is: we tried a bit of 2vs2 volleyball in wii sports mix. Opponents on easy mode. This game is mostly just "being in the right position" when passing, at best hitting a button to smash.
I get why you suggest it, but It reiterates the reason I asked for a platformer: the 2D playing field is still a bit too much for her. She understands going left and right, and a bit of ladder climbing, but getting in a position on an X and a Y axis is still a bit much. It's also why any 3D coop game is off the wishlist for now (though admitted: Tennis and Volleyball are more likely to preceed that).

If New Super Mario Bros. Wii is still too hard then how about emulating New Super Mario Bros. New Deluxe on the Steam Deck? She can pick Toadette or Nabbit to lower the difficulty to something she can handle.

I recommend Kirby Star Allies specifically for this kind of occasion, though it's a Switch game.

You mentioned Mario Kart Wii, but have you tried MK8D (the Switch version? One of the first games my daughter started with was that, as it has an auto steer and auto accelerate feature, so basically the game can play itself and they really only have to worry about getting hit by items  I dunno how well the Steam Deck will do MK8D, but that's definitely one to look into.

Just tried some mario kart 8 setup (without her) ...
The deck + dock emu is better than i thought it would. But I'm not convinced of the controllers. My PS4 controller's Bluetooth is broken, so I've got a PS5 and a dusty wiiu pro controller to work. The latter probably fits her hands... But she's used to wiimotes' gyro function. But i'll certainly start with mario wonder and Kirby star allies. :)

Super Mario Odyssey and have her play as Cappy? It's not proper coop but that might be a good thing since she can't really die as Cappy.

If you have Switch / PC, I would recommend Heave Ho

You only use few buttons:
a) Left Stick
b) Right Stick
c) Right Trigger
d) Left Trigger

In Heave Ho, players assume control of colourful characters, each presented as disembodied heads with a pair of stretchable arms, that must grapple and swing across each level in order to progress. In the event that a player character falls out of the level's boundaries, it respawns at the start of the level for a fresh attempt. Players can only control their respective character's arms; on a game controller, this is accomplished by moving the analogue stick

I would outright refuse to play with a toddler if I had to deal with one...
Why even respond if you're not going to say anything helpful?

I highly recommend trying out Super Mario 3D World. It was one of the first games my son got relatively good at around that age. Not very difficult, you should at least be able to get her through the first boss battle relatively easy. If you die too many times on a level, the game gives you a White Tanooki powerup that pretty much makes you invincible. The Super Mario 3D games are very low difficulty, but if you want to collect all of the hidden stars and stamps, and beat all of the secret worlds, that's when the hard difficulty kicks in.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm on the fence on mk3d world, but it'll be on het first isometric games to try

I'm fairly sure i have heave ho, so that's nice. :)

Ive made a sort of list of my own, btw.

I'm not playing with a toddler, but my toddler. :)
Yes, it's an investment. But i can already de heer improve a lot on motoristic skills, but even more on emotional one. She can handle losing... Well, at least more than before.

Not sure about current state of steam deck emulation, but:
Especially on switch there are great multiplier options to play with toddlers:
-Paw patrol 3D games, where you literally can't die.
The 2d game is a bit older and doesn't have multi-player I believe.
-Yoshi crafted world, a 2.5D game which on easy mode it's very playable for toddlers. They can jump on your yoshis back for the more difficult jumps.
The wooly world game for wii u is similarly
-Mario wonder, if you pick yoshi they can ride you for difficult jumps. Whilst them being yoshi/nabbit makes them nearly invincible.
-new super mario bros remake is a fun 2D platformer. Also found on Wii u.

And then there is the Snes game goof troop which is very fun to play together, but given the puzzles might require a slightly older age, 6-8 years perhaps.
