Hacking what causes duplicate channels?

Guys. so far I have been lucky in that I have only downloaded PAL games for my PAL Wii. I now have a few american games I want that dont yet seem to be available in PAL, is it people playing games form the wrong region that causes duplicate channels??? if so, is there anyway to get rid of them once they are there?????

I am fully up to date with Wii updates and my chip wont let me update it at all (yea its over 1yr old now)
