So the inevitable 10.4 update arrived and broke some homebrew related apps (no more ironhax, no more browserhax for n3ds users and no more memchunkhax2 on FW >10.3) and because of this I have some questions regarding what could/couldn't accidentally update your 3ds. I know that you could always say no to the update installation notification and L+R+A+UP when powering on and exiting to remove the update but this thread is just as a precaution so that it doesn't get to that. Hopefully the answers to these questions may prevent any future 3ds owners from accidentally updating and losing homebrew.

    1) Does NNID apps like badge arcade force you to update?
    2) Could your system be updated by streetpassing a system on a higher FW?
    3) Could <10.3 3ds users be blocked from browserhax/ironhax/menuhax without updating by simply using WiFi? (eg. when browserhax was blocked in 2015)
    4) How long would your system have to be in sleep mode to download an update and do spotpass features stop altogether if you aren't on the latest FW?
    5) Is local/online multiplayer broken if you aren't on the highest FW?

    1) Badge Arcade is not forcing you to update, until it comes time to actually purchase plays. In the case of apps that use eshop for any type of in-app purchases, you just get an error code message telling you to update.
    3) Browserhax can be disabled by nintendo as of 9.9, due to a file that the browser can check for online to see if there is an update available. ironhax/menuhax not affected by this.
    4) No idea how long it takes for the system to download updates in sleep mode.
    5) Local multiplayer not broken. Online multiplayer is, if the game requires an update, and you don't have it.

Thanks for the link, I did however read it before but some
Thanks for the great post, it really helped. Just wanted to clarify something though: do spotpass features still work if you arent on the latest FW and if we hypothetically get the eshop spoofer to work again in homebrew would downloading the game update then allow multiplayer on lower FW?
