What are these extra nodule things that came with some of my Modbo 4.0s?

So my Modbo 4.0s arrived today, but one of them looks a bit different to the others and it doesn't have these strange nodule things bundled with it, those little lumps you see on computer motherboards. Here is a photo. What are the little lumps for and why did one of them not come bundled with them?

Diode fix for the laser. Only used for the V12 slim and doesn't work anyway.

Doesn't work? What makes you say that?
Back when I got FMCB a diode fix was pretty much required on certain PS2 versions if you were installing a modchip, according to posts it seemed like without it your laser would be guaranteed to die sooner or later.

Laser still burns out with it, hence it doesn't work. V12 still need fixing, or the laser will burn out, but diodes alone will not do it. The only fixes that stop the laser on the V12 from burning out are the ones like the comsoft v4 and similar that shutdown/reset the console as soon as excess current is detected. Some are combined with the diode fix, but the the fix alone will not save your laser if issues occur.

Oh, I see, so it's only for v12 slim? I think I have version 17.

Also, what thickness wire should I buy? In my country we sell them by a different gauge, so I just need to know which one I should buy.

I've been hunting and I can find plenty of sites that sell 30 AWG wire intended for modchips, but I need the thicker wire like you say. This store sells wire that is 18 AWG, but is this the right wire? http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=WH3045 I don't want to buy speaker wire by accident, or not get double stranded or whatever.
