I want to use Lakka. With the release of painless Linux, now's a better time than ever to do so. I've heard there are some hardware issues with it though. I believe the battery issue has been fixed, but isn't there a screen burning issue now? What else should I be worried about?

Also, how do you even get to Linux? Do you have to flash a payload everytime?

the fact that there is absolutely no sound. I guess some people don't care but in the case of lakka it completely defeates the point of a game if sound is just not there. it's such a big part that I would rather be tied down to a home computer for emus then bother with lakka on switch

Also, the fact that it’s a payload so you have to reboot into RCM mode every time you want to load it.

Bluetooth audio is supported and working perfect just takes a little bit of tinkering.
For me it's less of an issue as a handful of the games I emulate produce sounds that are quite unpleasant for me (hyper-sensitive to high pitched sounds). So I usually find myself unphased with no audio.

    -Screen Burn
-Sounddriver destroying Soundchip (that why it is disabled)
    -No Sleepmode
    -No Dockmode
    -Run everytime the Payload

Just because it can destroy the hardware, I wouldn't touch it for a while. :D

To be fair, you have to do the same thing if you want to run homebrew or CFW on a switch (unless you are on 3.0 or 1.0).

The difference is that most people here will be already running either hekate or SX and using sleep mode to avoid having to use RCM every time.

    + Hardware acceleration
+ many cores running pretty well (even PSX, N64 and SEGA Saturn as far as I know)
    + XMB theme
+ Bluetooth audio (yeah that's an advantage since even Horizon still doesn't have it)
+ no battery desync issue (since this was a big issue I'll count that here)

    - no sound from soundchip itself (only BT)
    - no standby/sleepmode
    - no dock support
    - (rare?) random shutdowns
    - no wireless controllers including the JoyCons (JoyCons work only attached)
    - potential screen burn ins

Yes there are some downsides (having to launch a payload isn't one as that goes for a CFW as well) and apart from always prefering RetroArch as a homebrew application for Horizon, only the screen burn ins are still pretending me from using it. The other things don't really bother me.

But somehow I feel some salt and bitterness... almost raging... about lakka everytime someone at gbatemp is speaking about it, as it's completely f*cked up shit and that pisses me off tbh.

Yes it has issues, some of which people might consider too dangerous to use but absolutely no one is forced to use them. natinusala never said "Use it! There's no risks!". He's not hiding the issues that are still present. It's completely up to you to decide whether you use it or not and even if it stays at the state it is right now and won't get any better for end users it still is a massive progress natinusala made here and - I dunno whether this is an idiom in english as well but we germans use it quite often - "I pull my hat for it". :D

    This answers many questions btw:

Ⅰ think there's a certain amount of paranoia that homebrew developers will focus on Linux-based applications rather than native Horizon-based application.

If we ever have a way of booting straight into other payloads from CFW, this will no longer be an issue.

I know and paranoia is the right word as there's mainly two devs working on Linux things: natinusala (painless, lakka) and that Ubuntu guy (don't remember his name lol). Of course there are a few more doing small thinks but those two are the ones everyone's noticing. In fact natinusala is even the only one still being present here. On the other hand we've got plenty of Horizon homebrew devs. There seem to be at least one new homebrew app per week which is impressive and far away from how slow things went on the Wii U.
I wouldn't sign this. People (me included) would still prefer NROs over booting in other payloads. But I think if screen burn ins and sound will be fixed, many more people would use (or at least try) Linux on the Switch.
